Happy to help Bill. I haven't studied the AMC but could you massage a SBC to resemble a 390?

You will have to replace that 1000cfm Dominator Carb ( late model drag racing only) with a Holley 750cfm type , there are lots around in resin and metal though, other than that it looks like a nice engine.. Chris

Happy to help Bill. I haven't studied the AMC but could you massage a SBC to resemble a 390? I am pretty sure the AMC 304, 364 and 390 share the same block, just the matter of Bore and Stroke... My 72 year old Aunt actually bought a new AMC Rebel Rambler with the Stick and 390 4bbl , white with the red and blue striping it was a street legal Factory light weight Drag car I really wish I had it today.. I have a few pictures of a Penske/Roy Woods Racing Trans Am Javelin. I worked on restoring it 2x back in the 80s and 90s. I was around as an SCCA Tech Inspector when the cars were raced. My friend I worked with on the restorations worked at Roy Woods after the Javelins were raced, but they were still in the shop at the time. The crew chief of Roy Woods Racing during the '70s was an advisor on the restorations and his son worked with us. I don't have near as many pictures as I would like to have of the car and it was a long time ago. That last photo there shows me under the back of the car at a Vintage race event at Palm Springs in November '92. I think I was bleeding the brakes.
The engine used in the car was a de-stroked 390 built by Traco in LA. Single Holley 4bbl. Engine painted light gray. Headers white. Aluminum radiator. Engine compartment sides gloss black. Blue paint on body with Roy Woods is darker than Sunoco blue used when the car was in Penske's hands.

A few more. For some reason, if I try to add more than 3 pictures per post, the forum software kicks out any more than that. So I'll just limit my posts to that.
Driver's seat is a RaceMark brand seat. Mark Donohue owned RaceMark. Any other seat in a '71-72 Trans Am Javelin is incorrect. Foil heat reflecting material on the bottom of the seat.
Roger Penske Approved restoration. LOTS of masking to paint the cage different than the rest of the interior

That RaceMark seat is available from the Penske/Bobby Allison NASCAR Matador, including the "Sportsman" version (Sportsman only in the decals).
Note below the stainless steel heat protection on the rocker panel. Also note the dual exhaust pipes on both sides of the car. There are channels in the floor of the car to recess those exhausts. Bottom of the pipes are flush with the underside of the floor with a piece of 1/8" x 1" strap about a foot from the end to support the pipes. The strap is bolted to the floor.
Ford 9" axle on leaf springs with panhard rod and rear sway bar. NASCAR hubs. Disc brakes at all 4 corners.

Okay, this is about all I have.
In case you want to detail the trunk. Paint it white.
At this time, the fuel cell had a chrome plated top sheet added on by some prior owner who wanted the car more "showy", that we removed to expose the red fuel cell box.
Here is the engine compartment being prepared for re-paint. Note the diagonal roll cage braces from the firewall to the tops of the shock towers. Also note the big hole in the right side of the firewall for the dry sump oil tank.

Not really. Rather different in fact.
Front suspension is nearly identical to Mustang, so an AMT '67 Mustang or Shelby GT350 would serve for that. NASCAR Ford 9" rear axle and brakes with aluminum tube for the center register to locate the center of the wheel. The dry sump oil tank in the firewall is a vertical cylinder, with the 'in' line entering at a near tangent just below the top on the outboard side.

Fireball Model Works has some appropriate Holley carbs. Awesome level of detail.
My previous post... "Not really. Rather different in fact." ...was in response to a question about whether a different seat would serve as a close enough representation of the RaceMark seat that should be in this Javelin. Apparently THAT post asking that question has been removed/deleted/whatever. I didn't like my comment hanging out there like some totally unrelated and irrelevant foolishness.

The tall seat is from Revell, included in their C2 and C3 racing Corvette kits as well as the Shelby GT350R. Used one in my '70 Cuda T/A build.

Excellent Goodyear's in the Monogram Shelby Gt350, have used them on many race cars... Chris
