Question a little off track: Slim I see you are a blues musician? Same here, drums along with my wife (vocals) though for health reasons I had to quit April 1st 2017. I also notice you are from the St. Louis area. Would you happen to know Big (not so much anymore) Rich McDonough by any chance? He is a very good friend of my wife and I. We have played with Rich numerous times back here in the Pittsburgh area. He used to have people back here. Good, good player. Yes, I played with Rich for over five years. Hosted on Fotki

I built this Chaparral 2E when it was a new issue. Like 1967. I had no issues then at the age of 12 and it looked pretty good. I haven't tried a Union issue of it, but I don't imagine its way different from the original IMC. My model was heavily damaged in an earthquake in 1971. I just recently bought another kit via evilBay. So I'm going to build it again.
I got to see the full scale cars up close in October at the Times GP. So I had reference.
IIRC, the other team driver in the 2E was Phil Hill. Hap Sharp was the team mate in the 2 and 2C.

Slim, looking forward to watching your build. I picked up that kit years ago, but never had the courage to start it yet. Was missing the instructions, which I was able to find online and print out. My model was heavily damaged in an earthquake in 1971. Richard, was that the Sylmar quake? Spent my first 18 years in Los Angeles, and I'll never forget that quake. Worst one I experienced! Cameron

Cameron Yep Cameron. I grew up in the far north end of LA, a community called "Sylmar", near where the '71 quake was epicentered. Our home took damage nearly equal to its market value before the quake. I had 112 car models on my shelves at the time, that I had just inventoried the week before. During the quake I watched ripples across mt ceiling like ripples on the surface of a pond. My bedroom door was closed and latched. It tore open and then ripped off the hinges and landed on my toes on my bouncing bed, then the bed walked out from the corner and tossed me off into the corner and finally wound up back in the corner on top of me. After, not only were all of my models thrown on the floor, the shelves were thrown down as well, on top of some of the models. It wasn't pretty.

Richard, At least you survived the Quake. Way better then you loosing all your models and you were lost as well. Still, loosing a 112 car model collection that took many years to build, has to be devastating.
At my end of the country (Long Island), we lost our house to fire. All we had left was the cloths we were wearing. Took about a year to rebuild, but many items and all the memories were gone forever.

Bill, Simply an outstanding build. Your exceedingly high skill level clearly has been demonstrated throughout this build. Joel
