First off, I want to make it clear that I did not build this car because of the... interesting... livery (lol). It is more of a build of circumstance. I have a number of last season’s Formula 1 races that I have yet to watch saved on the DVR to fight the off season blues, and while watching one of these inspiration struck! I had bought this kit a number of years ago on clearance, and as the only F1 kit it my stash, it found its way on to my workbench. The build itself was pretty straightforward. There are some quirks to these RoG F1 kits that I stumbled through, but overall I’m pretty happy with it. I used Tamiya TS-22 Brilliant Blue, though this color is not quite correct. It should be a bit deeper metallic blue, but this is the closest I had on hand. Also, dedicated Sauber fans may note that the front wing end plates and side aero fins should be the same metallic teal that appears on the side pods. Again, I didn’t have any paint to match and was more focused on getting the car completed than being 100% accurate. I have to to admit I was a little intimidated by the decals. Coming from a NASCAR modeling background, decal-heavy liveries don’t usually bother me, but this car has several complex surfaces that are covered in decal. Also, the obscurity of the subject meant finding replacements would be virtually impossible if I screwed one up. Fortunately liberal use of Solvaset bailed me out and gave me a car I’m happy to put on my shelf. Thanks for looking!

Rob, Its an Outstanding build and the Revel kits are not that bad, filling a lot gaps in F-1 history. Your build shows that even if you were not a F-1 builder you can produce an attractive model that You should be proud of.. just a note a member of GPMA is offering 14 of these F-1 kits for $100. !! its a great buy and would keep someone busy for quite a while, some I had never even seen before. I have 9 and will get to them in the future.. Excellent!! Chris

Wow, $100 is a great price. I can’t ever see myself building 14 of them, but an F1 enthusiast will get a great deal! I like that these are 1/24 as opposed to Tamiya’s 1/20. That’s more in line with the rest of my collection. This was an enjoyable build, and being essentially curbside, I was able to complete it in just over a week. I can definitely see myself building one again next winter. Maybe a Ferrari. Red is a bit more dignified than the conglomeration of colors on this one...

Nice job Rob. I have a few of the Revell 1/24 scale F1 kits. Haven't tackled one yet however.

Rob, Just an excellent build for sure. Open wheel cars have their own set of challenges especially when engine/transmission, and suspension are fully visible. One thing for sure, your paint finish and decaling came out absolutely perfect.
I'm both a closed wheel and open wheel builder and fan. Ok, Indy cars are my number series that I follow especially on Tv, as I've been a fan since the USAC days. One of the reasons why I love this site so much is that Open wheel builds are treated with the respect they deserve, with their own forum. This speaks volumes as to how professionally this site is run.

Joel, are you familiar with Chris other forum? Open Wheel Racing Modeling? mb2501.proboards.com/That concentrates on Indy cars. Dusty, Yes I am. I'm also a member there as well. But I consider this my home auto racing forum, and spend more time here then there. Here we have a full section for Open wheel race cars, while on the open wheel list closed wheel cars as well as other forms of modeling are all grouped into one general forum. I don't believe that Chris is the owner or an Admin of that list. My next build will hopefully be the Ebbro 1/20 scale Brabham BT19 F2 car. I do plan on doing a build blog on both sites at this point. Joel

Guys WHoa...my other Forum is Indy Car Modeling not Open Wheel.. I left that group during a real bad time when there was a lot of B.S being tossed around.. (long story) indycarmodeling.proboards.com/ unfortunately Indy Car Modeling is not as active as it has been mostly due my personal attention and dedication to making Motorsport Modeling a #1 forum inclusive of all type of Cars.. Thanks Chris

Chris, I'll have to checkout your open wheel site, as it's surely a great resource. Joel
