I'm in on this GB with a double build of the Mercedes W196 from an old Strombecker (Merit) kit and an awful Swift Protar kit. Convert this last kit in an acceptable approach to the real car will be a challenge. My intention is to replicate the J.M.Fangio '55 Argentinian GP winning car and the Sterling Moss '55 British GP winning car. Here you are the Strombecker body and parts over 1/24 scale drawing. The body shape is overall right but the '54 version. Here you are the Swift Protar body and parts over the same 1/24 scale drawing. Body is wrong in both width&height and the nose is too square. Tires are too small.

I'm really looking forward to seeing these models come together. You certainly don't back away from a challenge.

While there are inaccuracies in the body shapes, the Strombecker wheels look pretty good for injection molded 1/24 scale wire wheels. The Protar wheels look downright amazing for what they are.

What jumps out at me is how remarkably similar the two bodies are to each other once you've made all the modifications. It would seem that each has served as a partial reference for the other, either in proportion (the Merit version) or detail (the Protar). Wonderful to see this progressing as it has. What are your intentions regarding the wheels?

What are your intentions regarding the wheels? I'm trying to scratch build. First, made own drawings to prepare proper rings and hub with a lathe. Helped with a template, three steps of wiring between rings, last one is ardous, because wires come up and down between the second step wires. Now, it will be time for seven more - I need to improve my lathe skills
