I'm new to this board, so I thought I would start a thread with one of my latest builds: This is one of Gary Doucette's kits with engine and steering added.

Man...it's good to see this build again. You did an excellent job on this puppy pbh. I have this kit but haven't got to it yet. You sure make me want to build this puppy right now!

Excellent model! Did you scratch build the engine?

Excellent model! Did you scratch build the engine? It's either a resin copy of an old Etzel Miller 8 or one of the American Racing Miniatures re-issues. I've got about a half dozen of each, each of which will find their way into my eventual 20s and 30s collection. The carbs were scratch built with resin copies of parts from an old AMT '53 F-100 and plastic tubing.

Yes, I have that kit and a couple of engine kits Harold sold me a few years back. I'm going to put one of them into Gary Doucette's Detroit Special and the other one into the South Eastern finecast Miller 91 I have on the shelf.

Lovely period evocation. Could you discuss the leather straps. Did they come with the original kit or are the fabricated? They are a nice detail touch.

Lovely period evocation. Could you discuss the leather straps. Did they come with the original kit or are the fabricated? They are a nice detail touch. The straps came flat with the kit. I got them shaped to the hood by heating them under hot water. What is not clear from Gary's instructions is that on the real car the straps connect to the hood through narrow slits, so when I do this on the next car I'll be scribing those slits into the hood to make it more realistic. Also, the springs are decals included with the kit. I'm told there are photo etch pieces available, but I haven't seen any for sale yet.
