I think it’s going to be my new go-paint stripper. I’ve already been using it to smooth putty in seams and to clean my airbrush in the hydrosonic cleaner.

Ben, I'm wondering if it would make a better Air Brush cleaner then the Cheap-O lacquer cleaner I use for that purpose. Never thought about using it to smooth out putty seams either. That's one thing I'm going to try as soon as the need comes up.

I would think lacquer thinner would be more aggressive than the denatured alcohol. I use the cheapest carburetor cleaner I can find for my airbrush for cleaning between painting sessions. It seems to work better than lacquer thinner. I'd probably save myself money if I'd switch back to using bulk lacquer thinner.
The denatured alcohol + Bondo-type putty works pretty well for seams like those you get between the wings and fuselage of airplane kits. Since I switched to using Apoxie Sculpt for filler, I haven't used Bondo in a while. I hear Apoxie Clay works even better, because it's smoother.

Ben, I still use Tamiya putty and Bondo, but have Apoxie Sculpt for serious filling issues, which worked pretty good with water till it really hardened up. Never thought about Carb cleaner for my airbrushes, as LC is super cheap at Home Depot. Sure sound like we're slowly turning into chemists these days.

Great build Ben, I have started throwing Pennies and Dimes in a Sparklets bottle , I figure by the time I fill it the price on a real F-1 Mclaren (used of course) will be no problem.. I would love to own one, next time I see Jay Leno, we are going to have a conversation about his. Think he might trade it for a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport? Both really rare and desirable..No??? Chris

Ben, A truly impressive build as your McLaren looks just fantastic. I'd say it was well worth the time and effort. So what next to hit your bench?

Chris Chris, How about recording your session with Jay for all of us to view. Should be one for the books. Jay does buy some strange cars from time to time, so he just might opt for the Explorer if he needs a daily driver for his shop crew. Joel

Thanks, Joel!
I have the Fujimi Ferrari F40 LM with Pilot decals on the bench, but it’s on the back burner. I’m not a big Ferrari fan and I’ve built too many blue cars, lately. I got the kit as part of a lot and started it because I couldn’t find anything else to work on. Next up will be a Revell 1st generation RX-7 and probably a Tamiya Honda NSX GT 500 car in Castrol colors.

Super nice build! The thought of applying all those decals would have given me major anxiety.
