What can I say except that Rossi was in a zone that no one could match as he won with a 28.5 second led over Power, Leading all but the 1st lap.
To be honest about it, Herta started from the pole and was able to stay within striking distance of Rossi. His team screwed up one pit stop with the gas fueling nozzle not set correctly putting him out of contention for the win. He still was running a great race, but for some reason his team kept him on the harder compound tires till the last pit stop, then put on the Reds, which were toast with 4 laps to go, and he ended up in 8th place. Even I would have put the Reds on the 2nd to last stop, then when they wore out, pitted and went with the harder compound tires. A really bad decision on the team's part.
The where will Rossi end up for next year naturally came up again. Seems that Rossi would stay with Andretti if they can come up with the cash, but Andretti is having issues with full sponsorship/cash for him. That once again brings Penske and Ganassi into the picture. I can see Ganassi jumping at the chance to sign Rossi and dump Rosenquest, as Penske already is committed to all 3 of his drivers.
And what about Herta? With what he's accomplishing this year, I can see him leaving his present team, and signing with a more established one. Just the fact that George Steinbrenner IV is a partner tells us a great deal. He's the money man, as he knows next to nothing about car racing. The family owns the New York Yankees run by Hal Steinbrenner, and a horse breeding farm run by the other brother Hank Steinbrenner. George is the son of Hank Steinbrenner whose not a favorite of mine by any means.
