Sam I'm more then impressed. Just a fantastic build. With all the doors & panels open, we get a display view that isn't to common.
Love the paint and decaling. Whose paints and what color white, as it looks dead on.

That is a beautiful Mk-I build, most build the Mk-ii because of its history, but I really like Mk-I's and wish there were more kits available. I am still working on the Alan Mann AMR GT40 01 Lightweight build its a long term thing but I do get some done here and there. Congratulations on a Beautiful Model.... Chris here is the link to a very special MK-I I built a while back if you didnt see it.. race-car-models.proboards.com/thread/52/ford-gt40

OMG, you must be at least part Alien to build and detail at that level. I'm letting you know right up front that I'm downloading the detail pictures for my own future builds. Of course there's no way I can duplicate or even come close to what you achieved, but it's going to be a heck of a lot of fun seeing just what I can actually come up with. Joel

My build was a monster, to eliminate the fit problems and warpage I had to get 3 kits, yea 3 IMC 1966 GT 40 MK-i kits in good shape? One for the chassis pan , one for the parts of the body and one for the Doors! The engine was out of a Gurney Eagle and most of the rest is scratchbuilt..lots of stainless surgical steel in the suspension and aluminum in the detail stuff. It was a 4 page feature in the 2nd issue of Model Car Builder magazine, check the list of aftermarket pieces I used ...Thank Goodness for R B Motion, The magazine is available on line still I believe at magcloud.com Sam's build is Awesome particularly when I remember what it took just to build mine..Great Work Sam! Paint for the Body was MCW Wimbledon White. Blue was Mr Color Blue Angel Blue.
Wheels are from the kit. It seems only the IMC issue has the wire wheels. The Testors "Those Famous Fords" issue only has the Halderbrands used in the Mk II issue. However, the instructions in the Testors issue is what you want, trust me.

Sam, MCW Paints. I used them on the Martini 917K and really liked them, but you can't find any racing colors on their site now as he removed his basic list. There catalog is only for street cars. I found another USA custom paint company Scalefinishes.com that does have a listing of all their colors, but haven't found out a lot about their paints as yet.
Did you use their primer and Gloss clear too?

If you are asking me, here is my reply. I'm Mark, not Sam. Racing colors still available: mcwfinishes.com/shop?olsPage=t%2FracingPrimer was Tamiya. Fine white primer. Is there really anything else? Clear was Mr Color GX100. Again-properly thinned, really nothing else comes close these days. Tamiya TS-13 can actually melt plastic, resin, paint and decals. Testors 1834 Wet Look Clear isn't bad IF and only if you use it once out of the can. Found this problem with many of the "new formula" Testors spray cans. You can thank the previous Presidential administration for that and making Tamiya Clear disappear for months (Only to resurface as something so hot it's almost unusable).

Mark, My apologies for mixing yours and Sam's names up.
I previously used MCW paints for two builds when I 1st got back into cars. I do recall that he had an easier way to navigate by a list of what colors basically went with what car and or sponsors. Now clicking on a color really doesn't tell you much. For instance, I'm interested in Folger's Red. I'd have to reach out to them to find out what Red that is. Scalefinishes has two listings: one for lacquers, and one for Enamels. I've never used their paints so I have no 1st hand knowledge about how good they are, but they do list Folger's Red.
I've heard great things about GX100 but it doesn't seem to be available here in states. I've been using Mr. Hobby's C046 gloss clear in the 10 ml jars instead, but I'm going through nearly a jar per model.
For nearly all my builds I've been using Gravity of Spain's paints, which I love, but they don't make colors for a lot of the US racing cars. They also don't have a lacquer single step clear, only a 2K system that I rather not use for health reasons. They finally now have two different Gray color primers. I'm going to try their lighter shade. For a white primer, like you, I use Tamiya's. For a black primer I still use Mr. Hobby's Black 1500 Surfacer.
