I am thinking of building a second McLaren MP 4/2 for the 1986 F1 Portugal drive of Keke Rosberg which was a "Marlboro Gold" promotion.
Two questions; 1) Was it a gold color or really just yellow as most of the internet images show? 2) I would need to create a yellow numeral 2 for the nose in a matching color to the gold/yellow and a white numeral 2 (x 2) for the rear wing. Any ideas on how I can find that font? Anyone here a decal maker? I've never done it and would pay to get it done.
Thanks in advance!

I'm going to bump this post to see if anyone can give me a better answer than the none I received...
Michael at IndyCals does a decal sheet for the 1986 Estoril McLaren MP4/2C but the number is yellow and not gold. I seem to remember the car being gold to go along with the Marlboro gold pack. Some images show the car as more yellow and some as more gold.
Anyone have any insights? I have another MP4/2 that is waiting for a plan... I was thinking of doing the gold car.

I pulled the 1986/87 Automobile Year Book out and checked every race for 1986..not one shot of the McLaren Marlboro Gold car, in fact there was maybe one of the number 2 car all year long, because Prost was driving the number 1 McLaren and of course they took almost exclusively pictures of his car. I have to look through the library in the office and see if I can find any thing else. The Marlboro Gold Pack is the Marlboro lights that still wears a gold wrapper, but the race car is another story. I will see what I can do and get back to you.. Chris

If you are doing it in 1/24 scale there is an e-Bay seller that has the conversion decals for it. I have some and they are very nice looking (haven't applied any yet). Looking at this image and it's not a 1986 MP4/2C as evidenced by the dolphin nose and the undertray... looks more like a Ferrari F14 with the fin!

This was a "What If" article a year or two back regarding using Old Liveries on New Cars.. so it wouldnt apply but from my research I would say its Yellow, (Golden Yellow?) I would wait until you get or make some decals to match the paint up with them, I noticed the Ebay set has Florescent looking numbers?? They look wrong? I know there are a few guys on here that make decals, GWS? I am sorry because I cant remember the names of the guys who do them...Chris

The conversion decal sheet uses a Florescent Yellow, which if you match them to the body color in the photos in the thread, means it was Florescent Yellow. Makes sense if the red used was Florescent Red on the #1 car.
