This sure looks like it's going to be a really interesting restoration to follow. You really lucked out with the decal sheet, especially with the Marlboro decals on it. The odds must have been one in a million. I can't even find Marlboro AM decals for the Beemax McLaren MP4/4 anywhere.
As far as stripping paint, if it's acrylic or even acrylic lacquer, I've had excellent results using Denatured Alcohol in a bath. Works fast, no smell, non-toxic, and it hasn't ever damaged any plastic. It's also cheap as I get it at my big box hardware store in the same section of the paint department as LC and Mineral Spirits.
One question, how will you be handling all those exposed screw holes?

Joel I got the decal sheet direct from Italeri (who acquired Protar). Italeri has repopped the kit... and apparently Italy doesn’t care. The screw hole deal is an issue as the kit requires one of two solutions... don’t use the screws which means permanent assembly, or ignore them. Not much else I can do!

Which method are you going to use, screws or glue? Personally, the screws just kill the concept of a display presentation model Joel

Personally, the screws just kill the concept of a display presentation model Joel Since there probably won’t be another rebuild I might go glue but the screws pull parts together... and I’d have to paint body parts in place as opposed to i assembled. I really hadn’t thought about it as no one but me ever sees them. I also found out two things; 1) whatever clear I used 30 years ago, that’s what yellowed and 2) the decals were on a carrier that really sealed the paint underneath! The ink was hard and came off in layers but gett the last layer with the carrier was really stubborn. I’m not sure when I’ll get started on repainting. Have to do the primer, then white, red next, and black on underside last (if at all, as it’s really not seen). Thanks for introducing the ideas!

Hope to lay down some paint on this 7 day cycle. Might be a little at a time since I have 2.5 cords of wood to stack, a shoulder CT, and going to see the UP 4014 which is the only operational Big Boy locomotive in the US. Internet search it if you aren't familiar!
Not much activity on these boards suddenly. Wonder what everyone is up to!

Not much activity on these boards suddenly. Wonder what everyone is up to! I'm playing the waiting game. My 641/2 aftermarket order is in the mail and I'm waiting on an order of carbon decals and some other assorted stuff from SpotModel. Other than that, waiting for the weekend to paint the 312t3 and hopefully finish that up....then on to the 641/2. Still visit the board every day and I've noticed in my short time here, it has gotten quieter. I would expect life gets in the way for most of us....

Internet search it if you aren't familiar! Not much activity on these boards suddenly. Wonder what everyone is up to! Looking forward to following your painting progress. Slow but steady is always a better way to go, then rushing it. I can see why you just might need a Shoulder CT after stacking that much wood. Sure hope that you didn't have to chop it 1st. And for the Big Boy, I know something of the glory days of steam power as I was a model railroader a million years ago. Space, Time, & Money took quick work of that hobby. Watching the UP Big Boy come to life once again certainly will be something special to see and hear. As for the lack of activity here, I'm sure that there's almost as many reasons why as there are active members. I for one post everything I build in a blog format, and I even post my Self Queens due to loss of interest, over my head, or what not. I just posted the start of the Revell 1/25 scale Roush GTO Folger's Mustang that I'm building for a GB on my other long time list. Summer is always the slowest time of the year, as most normal folk like to get outside, work on the house, car, play golf, tennis, fish, or what not, and modeling takes a back seat till the colder weather sets in, and drives them indoors. I model 12 months out of year as my days playing sports are long over, but like I said, I'm in the minority for staying indoors in the summer time. Chris actually has two lists, which can make it seem slower then it really is. I would be in favor of combining the Open Wheel list with our list, and maybe reducing the number of forums so it's easier to see the new posts, and follow build blogs. Not so sure we need to separate the Tin Tops into so many forums when there's not always an active post or blog in them. And by combining lists, there's just more traffic. Joel

So today was another cord or so and that leaves me with about 1.5 left to stack...
Really windy here today and lots of power shutdowns by PGE as they try to avoid burning down another entire town (Paradise, CA) like last year. CT is still on...
Thanks for the notes, Joel and Mike!
Good thoughts, Joel. Have you talked to Chris about it?

Guys , about the Indy Car Modeling forum that I now own, it was created as the result of a split during a very turbulent time with Open Wheel Modeling forum, People were quiting the hobby because of some people that were destroying certain peoples builds and degrading certain people to that extent. So Mike and Bill started the ICM forum and banned those guys involved and things went well for years, Bill lost his mind and started doing the same things that the Forum was created about, so he left, That is when I asked Mike, who wasnt participating much to give the entire forum to me, he did and I added Jim Stephens as a admin. things picked up and we had no problems for a long time, then Mike had some problems and was only on line maybe once a year so Jim and I asked him to give up control and he did .. but by then things here picked up and I added the Open Wheel category here. So I still own ICM and check it daily, right now I have been building Hard top race cars so I have not had much to post other than helping the guys and commenting when needed. Jim and I have talked about this and we prefer, for now to leave things as is, it doesnt effect my participation here and I build all the time, as does Jim who has been sticking with open wheel cars for now. Combining the two boards might bring some unwanted things that have existed for a long time on ICM and the Guys at ICM do only build Indy Cars and dont have a lot of interest in our Forum. So the history and problems of combining the two dont seem to be a good deal right now. I am VERY Happy wih Motorsport Modeling and Every single one of the Guys here... If it aint Broken .......Chris Ps. I have talked this over with JC the admin I added to aid me here and we are in agreement. JC does an excelent job helping Me run this forum.....

Calvin at , hobbitime.shop/ has Marlboro decals in a bunch of sizes for reasonable costs , check it out, if for some reason you cannot find the size you need LMK I have a stash of them. Michael at Indycals will not do Tobacco related decals for the most part due to previous Legal problems with them ( not with Him) so why create a problem when you dont need it... Chris

Chris, The conversation started about the list being rather slow right now. Just trying to come up with ideas to get more guys building and posting.

The Age Old Question!! You know life, work and play seem to really change the quantity of posts on every forum, not just ours.. then there are Us Old Guys who build all the time and I have to admit, It's the Old Guys who keep the Forums Alive and interesting! But really Thank's to everyone for the constant input we get here.. Chris
