I just don't get it, I really don't. Max Verstappen had the pole on his 2nd to last Qual lap. Then tried to better it on his next lap. Bottas over cooked it and hit the wall, then the barrier destroying the left front. Double Yellow flags were thrown, but Mad Max paid them no heed, and finished the lap. No Penalty by the Stewarts.
When asked in the post Qual press conference Max said he saw the Flags but didn't slow down as F1 Drivers know what they're doing. The Stewart's apparently weren't to happy with Max's attitude and penalized him 3 spots on the grid. So now he starts 4th next to Hamilton and behind both Ferrari's.
That's certainly a real dumb ass move, and could have been another accident if he ran into a emergency car/truck coming from the other direction of the corner.
I'm a huge Verstappen/Red Bull fan, but I just can't condone this type of attitude. He's lucky he only got kicked back 3 spots. They could have just as easily moved him to the back of the grid.

The most impressive aspect of the race was the size of the crowd. Outside of the Indy 500, I don't think any other race in the world draws that many spectators.

Gotta agree with Rob on the size of the crowd, it was massive. I would have bet my last Buck that it would have been the Italian GP @ Monza that draws the largest F1 GP crowd.
I still can't believe that Mad Max just had to try and win the darn race in the 1st corner with that nut case move on Hamilton. Of course the Racing Gods haven't been to thrilled with him over the last few races, but at least this time his poor judgement only led to a flat tire and not a destroyed under tray, and eventual retirement. Unfortunately, by the end of lap 2 he was last in the field, and basically out of any chance for a Podium finish. He did come to his senses and drove the rest of the race looking for the best finish possible, and managd to finish a very respectable 6th while his newly promoted teammate Albon finished a super strong 5th.
Ferrari allowed both drivers in their pre-race interview to say that this time there is no team orders. Certainly seemed that way as you couldn't of had a two car team which each car on totally different strategies. Vettel, finished in 2nd place on a one stopper going with the hard tire to the end of the race, while Leclerc finished 4th, stopping twice for fresh tires.
Hamilton won the race on a very early one stop tire stop opting for the Hard compound tires, then making them last longer then they should have. Max Verstappen actually drove nearly 70 laps on the White's which just amazed me.
This coming weekend is the USA F1 GP. I'll be very curious to see just what the crowds are like.

It depends on how you count the numbers. The GP in Montreal claims attendance as 307000. But that counts total admissions, so you have to consider that the same people came through the gates 3 times - Fri, Sat, Sun. I would guess Sundays attendance more like 130000. So a well attended event like Canada is really nowhere near the Indy 500 for race day. It's good, but not progress, really. Race day attendance at Mosport 1967 was about 115000 for comparison. Mexico this year looked packed, which is great. I hope that race stays on the calander, its a special event compared to these modern cookie cutter circuits.

Arcticwolf, I didn't make it to Mosport till 1971, and then it was to race an Enduro Kart. That track scared me to death going down the hill for the 1st time. I made it to Watkins Glen in 1967 & 8, but I don't recall the place being packed as we could park our sport cars right up against the course fence just about anywhere we could drive. And Bridgehampton just was never packed whether it was for the Can Am or Trans Am. Indy gets about 350,000 on race day.
Just Googled the Monza GP from last year which was a record crowd of 185,000 screaming Ferrari fans.
Like you, I sure do wish that Mexico stays on the calendar. Can't see why not as the attendance was off the charts, so they must have made a ton of money. Honestly, as much as Monaco is all about tradition, the race truly sucks these days. So if any track should get the boot, I'd vote for Monaco.
