Wow! I guess Penske would be the right person to own them, given his past successes.

I see this as very good news for the Indycar series. It will be interesting to see how Penske continues as a competitor in a series that he owns.

My concern would be that Roger Penske is 82 years old.

This has to be the biggest news ever in North American open wheel racing, and not a single word of it has leaked out as far as I can tell from the numerous racing sites and videos I subscribe to. The Federal Gov't should take note on how to keep secret matters, secret: no leaks period.
This can only mean that Indy Car racing and the Speedway will be taking giants steps forward and upward. Even though Roger Penske is in his early 80s, you see him at Nascar races, Australian Super Cup races, and of course every single Indy car race. He certainly will keep the focus of Penske Corp on the exact course he wants to maintain.
I really don't see any issues with his owning nearly everything related to Indy Car and running a 3 car team, as I'm sure that they will be run by two different organizations within the huge holding company.
I do wonder exactly what Tony George's position if any will be moving forward.

I'm not sure how I feel about this..... Storm of passions inside me....
I can't be rational about Indy.

Ismael, why do you feel that way? Penske will take the Indy 500, IMS, and Indy Car to the next step simply because the Holman Moody family couldn't do to all the in fighting about spending any money to better and further their products.
Penske was one of the owners of Cart and drove it to new heights. Cart most likely would have won the war if they didn't walk away from the 500. Outside of the 500, tracks don't make much on either Indy Car or Nascar races, teams struggle to pay the bills let alone turn a decent profit, and sponsors are really hard to come by. Many drivers have to bring some form of sponsorship with them in order to get a ride. Just look at the mess Hitch is presently in.
Penske Corp reaches and touches into Big Business world wide, and has influence in places that almost no one else has. Like I said, I'm looking forward to seeing major improvements like even a 3rd engine manufacture, allowing different engine types with a HP restriction no matter the type engine, a much better tv package then the commercial fest that we must endure race after race, as even Nascar doesn't have that many commercials, needed changes to Bump Day, and equality for all the teams.
With that being said, we need to remember that the Captain is 82 years old, and won't be around forever. So he needs to also focus on once he's no longer actively running the show or should I say shows, that his vision and focus continues.

My concern would be that Roger Penske is 82 years old. Roger did not buy IMS & Indy Car, one of his corporations did. Those corporations are set up to continue long after Roger is gone. Mike

Penske was the first big team to walk away from CART. Without the 500, CART could not survive, because the sponsored demanded the 500. Mike

There is a big discussion about this over on the Grassroots Motorsports forum. Apparently, Tony George approached Penske about it at Laguna Seca this year. They’re also saying there will be some GT races there, too, including a 24 hr race. I think the Penske organization is the right group to get more warm bodies into seats in the stands. Getting Tony George out of the picture is a bonus.

Mike, Thanks for the correction. Just another of my millions of typos.
As for RP not personally buying all three entities, it's just semantics that some of his corps did. It was his decision, and the vision for the future is most likely his.

I have mixed feelings about the proposed GT and endurance races. The IMSA races they ran at indy were pretty dull and I think the Indy roval sucks,

Rob, As far as the Indy Roval track goes, I'm not a fan. The infield is just to tight as it's basically just a series of S turns with a short straight between them. Joel
