The fans seemed to like the Charlotte roval, even though it looks kind of tight, too. As long as it helps grow the sport and get butts in seats.... A couple of interesting articles: link

Ben There's a huge difference in the layout of the two Rovals to start with. The Charlotte Roval isn't anything like the Indy Roval. For starters the course uses almost all of the Tri-oval, and the infield isn't a series of S turns but individual turns with a small straight between them which makes a huge difference. There are two chicanes to help slow down the cars. and speaking of cars, I believe that only the Nascar series raced there, not IMSA. I watched those races and they were the usual Nascar crashfiest. Maybe if they reconfigured the IMS track and used more of the oval, it could improve the racing. Joel

Hello, After 24 hours of processing: Don't get me wrong: If anybody deserves it, it is Roger. I think he is the best candidate for that. My gripe is with Tony George. He did not take care of it as it should. Yes the track was kept in top shape but I never saw the passion in him. The track has been in his family for 74 years. He should have been more involved and have his kids and grandkids continue the tradition. I think Tony and Mary are turning in their graves. But back to Roger, again, he is the best there is. But I think it would have made more sense 25 years ago. He is 82. Sure he still feels like a teenager (like I do ) but the fact is he is not getting any younger. Yes, it is a big corporation but I'm sure nobody else has his vision. I really wish him the very best and I hope he lives for many years to come! As long as he doesn't mess with MY museum or MY track, I'm good. In conclusion, I think it is a good thing. Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, BTW, it's great to have you back and posting. Sure hope that you're working on another super build.
I'm pretty sure that Penske's son is very much involved in the motor sports aspect of Penske Corp. I'm just amazed that RP will fly to Australia for a Super Car race like it's just around the corner, or stay up in the pits for a Endurance IMSA race. The guy is ageless. Not sure if he's almost never home Thurs-Sun with all the various teams he has.
Agreed about Tony not having the true passion that his parents did. His focus was on wanting more control of open wheel racing at the speedway rather then Cart dictating what the cars and race rules would be. Hence, the IRL was born. That must have cost his family millions in just funding for plenty of drivers and teams/cars over the years. And this is most likely what led to them removing him from power.
Now that Penske has the final say, I really hope that he finds a way to bring back Indy Car racing to the North East, and hopefully within lets say 3-4 hours max of LI NY. I'd love to see him try Lime Rock Park. If IMSA can run there, so can the Indy Cars. Just not on Sunday.

JC, Yep, you're right as I had an earlier version. I'm still not a fan of that track. Just to many slow S curves, and way to short of a main straight. They've got the speedway, so use a lot more of it.

Indianapolis is IMHO the greatest oval track ever built, they should use as much of it as possible.
Then again I love watching Indycars on the oval tracks. I wish they still had the Milwaukee State Fairgrounds track. Great racing and Bratwurst, how do you top that?

Looks like they could follow the cart path through the golf course to add some more turns. Ben
