One of my favorites, if not THE favorite. Apparently lost a battle with brain cancer. R.I.P., Sir!

Wasn't aware he was ill - very sad. Yes he was one of the great rock drummers.

RIP Neil Peart, i have seen Rush play many times and there are no words to describe Neil Peart, but Legendary comes close. What a talent and a huge lose.

Rush wasn't quite my tastes, but Neil Peart was phenominal.
RIP man, Gord Downey is waiting to jam with you.

The Professor has left the building. Very Very sad indeed. He sure inspired me. I loved the 2112 Album for sure. I don't think that RUSH will be the same if they continue.

I don't think that RUSH will be the same if they continue. Will never happen, Gary. Geddy Lee even said in the 2010 documentary, "Beyond the Lighted Stage", "I wouldn't wanna be in the band without those two, there's no replacing one of us...it's impossible."

From Geddy's 2017 interview on AXS TV:
Then came the $64,000 question – what does the future hold for Rush and will Lee be touring anytime soon? Here’s what Geddy Lee had to say according to a recap from Rush Is A Band:
"No plans for touring right now… at all. … I’m not sure that Rush as the 3-piece that people know will ever tour again at this point. It’s highly unlikely. But I would say that … this is the first time in my life that I’ve spent 6 months in my home and in my hometown without going to an airport. I’ve watched the garden go from being frozen solid in winter, watched the buds come up for the first time, watched all the various nuances of my home garden come to life – and it’s been so good for me. It’s been so edifying to see my hometown and to live as a normal person lives. I know most people take that for granted but for me it’s been quite special. I’m really not in a hurry, and I know there will come a time when I will have to feed the beast – when I have to get down to the studio and write. And I still go down there and put ideas on tape and I know they’re not going anywhere. So when the moment is right, and it feels right, and I’m ready to go out and do battle out there then I’ll put something together and I’ll go do that. … it’s a bit early to say [whether I’ll record or tour], but probably a little bit of both. Invariably if I put music together that I’m proud of, I’ll want to play it for someone. …"

I was taken by surprise at his passing myself. True loss to the music world and to those of us who listened to their music for years.
Very interesting article about his love for scale modeling.

In 1973 I bought a 6 piece PEARL Fiberglass kit ( F/G, that's all PEARL offered then) I then bought the first RUSH album, okay, NOT great BUT then when the "Fly by Night" album came out with some guy named Neil Peart replacing original drummer John Rutsey and I became aware of that mammoth kit.......well that's all she wrote! The next several years I proceeded to build up my original 4 tom kit( not including the bass and snare from my original) to a 13(total) drum masterpiece. Learning to play it properly well, THAT took some time and hours on hours of attempting to steal Neals chops. I owe a HUGE debt to Neal Peart, I played constantly the next 9 years. I took a break in 1984. Started back into playing in 2003 until 2017 and called it a day. R.I.P. Neal, you were the one that kept me going all those years. I've been playing off and on for about 50 years now (more "off" lately, apartment dwellers don't take kindly to drummers). I got my first taste of Neil after my buddy played "A Farewell to Kings" album for me. I was hooked since then but to be honest, I still can do the man no justice today in my playing. I've always said that calling him a drummer and me a drummer in the same sentence is like saying the Titanic and a canoe are both boats.....
