Hi All, As promised here's what I've done until i stopped working on it... I started with a favorite starting point of many of us...the glue bomb... I've more photos, but I don't have them on my Fotki site, this is the engine bay... and here is the near completed model... I stopped because of the translucent decals and a general incompetence in painting the nose. I did use the chassis from the MPC CanAm Spider (Howmet Turbine Record car) kit as it was a great starting point for the Cooper based chassis. The chassis itself is a McKee which is a near Cooper. There are a great amount of possibilities for various applications of the kit's parts. I need to get back to this again. Patrick

Thanks Patrick. Nice build. Now I know what to do with that Howmet spyder reissue! May I ask what paint you are using for Mecom blue? BTW, one other item that Mini Exotics did was the Mecom logo on a chrome foil backing. I figured I should repost that side shot here and I found my kit shot. Not sure why it was cut in two, but it adds to the challenge.

Many years back I had bought a few sets of the Mecom foil decals and then promptly lost them I keep hoping they will show up again, maybe when I move and get a chance to dig into some of my older decals and kits? They were very nice...Chris

Wow, that's a really neat subject, Patrick. What I am enjoying about this board is learning about these great sports cars that were a bit before my time, but that I truly love. I can't wait to see what you do with this.

and speaking of AMT's Hussien... this just ended yesterday on eBay for a spectacular price. Can you say MISB? www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-1-24-Scale-Hussein-Slot-Car-Factory-Sealed-in-Box-/171028202546The seller had the Chaparral plus the Lola and they were all mint. Having seen the Round2 ad in the June 2012 issue of Scale Auto for slot racing kits of American street cars and knowing the seller is pretty savvy, it makes you wonder whether Round2 is going to re-release these as well... soon. I know they are making a big announcement in early May for 40 kits.

Spotlight Hobbies is the reincarnation of the mega rare kit merchant (HOBBY HEAVEN) They back as far as the 70's they were the only game in town I have bought many rare kits from them until Ebay came along ..They also have the hugely popular Spotlight Hobbies forum used by large numbers of modelers all over the world. I was watching this kit when it was around $50. and then in the last hour or so it skyrocketed. I dont know if they have a slot car forum but it wouldnt surprise me.. and the pricing too.. I have a Mustang Gasser kit that I was going to sell for $40 sitting on my desk, it closed at $132.49 yesterday, same seller.. some of the items almost look like shill bidding is going on.. but I could ? be wrong!! At Riverside for the Times Grand Prix in October 1964, I remember at the end of the race being in the middle of the Mecom pit as the cars came in off the track. AJ and Parnelli drove into the pit as I was walking past. (it seems in my memory that the purple car of Parnelli was already there...perhaps had DNF'd?) A crowd of people rushed in around the cars and I was sort of trapped in the middle of it. I really liked the cars in the 1st place and had big respect for Mecom's team. Then a man in flowing Arabic robes walked up with a crowd of his own around him. Someone said it was King Hussein of Jordan. I know that is who the cars were named after as he had provided a substantial portion of the funding, but I'm not sure it was actually the King. I thought at the time it was probably someone close to the King. Perhaps some representative.
I have one of the AMT bodies painted Purple. (and I really don't like purple) I would like to rebuild it someday. I agree the McKee Howmet chassis is a good starting point.

I just scored one of these, an AMT Elva McLaren, two Lindberg Cobra Coupes, an AMT Chaparral 2 and a Lotus 40 on ebay. The Hussein is un built, as are the Shelby's, but the remaining are all in need of restoration.
