I admire you for building five at a time. I tried to build three of one subject before and only finished two. lol
Have you built one of these before? I hear that there are some issues with them. My kit keeps mocking me with its intimidation factor. 😄

I met Dick Gulstrand at Autobooks in Burbank, Ca about 20 or so years ago. we would run into each other on our Sunday trips to pick up the latest racing News, I had my Cooper 500 IX on display in a case there along with Harry Morrows racing goodies, but Dick always had a smile and a story, not always about Corvettes & Racing. Interesting is an understatement, I always enjoyed his stories about driving the Grand Sport and his in track time in places like Nassau. R.I.P. Dick........Chris

65slotcar, I like your choosing obscure versions of the popular configuration. I love Jimmy Clark and Lotus 29s, 30s and 40s but burned out on BRG. Yellow, white, red or blue are Unique and many versions were raced. Your photos of the Dick Boo GS is a case in point, the Monster hood scoop and 427 w/Webers are great as are the DIFFERENT slots in the rear vice just holes, think I'll make this one vice the popular ones. What was the exact color blue on the Johnson/Morgan #3 at Sebring? Revell says "Pontiac Engine Blue" which is a cool, light metallic I like. Exoto really screwed up the color on Foyt's #2 too dark blue, "Car Life" has a excellent cover photo of #2 which is a lighter metallic (Phelham Blue) blue. I do know that Mecom changed blues on the Lola T-70 in '65 but it seems he went back the next year to the Phelham Blue with black nose scallops. I am getting burned out on "PinInterest" so many photos. Found a Lotus 30 driven by Anson Johnson at Nassau 65 that had a Chaparral 2A style nose in either white or yellow I had never seen, think I'll do that one also. So many projects! Anyone out there an authority on Team Mecom?

grandsport3, yes i do like the obscure versions of any type of race car. the big hood scoop version with webers is going to be a tough hood to make, so i may tackle that one later. if your looking for some grand sport corvette matching color paint, zero paint does a 65 nassau blue part # ZP-1433 and Gravity Colors does the darker Mecom blue part #GC-2113.

Sam, yes i did build 2 many years ago. the kit is really good and the bodies are really nice with almost no flashing. the only real issue is the headers don't clear the frame very well. HRM makes a replacement headers and you can find them at modelbuilderswh.com part #HRM-503 $4.00 if your a Corvette fan i recommend the transkit roadster by HRM also at modelbuilderwh for only $55.00 this kit comes with correct 427 ,headers that fit ,2 sets of wheels, decals to make 2 different versions, interior ,windshield.....just a good kit.

I'm curious, did you remove the transmission cooler from the rear deck on some of them? The early Nassau cars apparently didn't have one, but the kits do.

yah 2 versions will have oil coolers removed. the same cars also have hoods with no louvers and kinda flatten out somewhat. i filled in one but don't like how it came out. will try again with another hood.

I used the AM McLaren M8 chassis to build the Nissan R380 Can Am (Group 7) car raced at the Fuji Can Am Race. I scratchbuilt a Nissan V-12 engine, replaced a bunch of the suspension with thin wall Stainless Steel tubing and scratchbuilt many, many pieces I think it cam out very well but just as with the stock kit the rear deck section ended up being off just a bit and doesnt fit down completely. I started measuring the original body and the R380 body for days, then widened it to fit the Nissan, then I stretched the chassis a slight amount behind the front wheels after 18 months of very careful fitting, measurements and modification it came out about 1/32 off ..... I dont get where it went south but it makes a great display Open model because of the subject matter.. It won a peoples choice award for Best Detail, at the only show I ever entered it in, the So Cal NNL. Here is the pics and the full build if you missed it race-car-models.proboards.com/thread/490/nissan-r382-wip?page=5 Chris

4 coupe interiors done. i like how accurate miniatures did the gauge cluster. gauge decal is put on dash first and clear face plate put over decals.
