Ben, Thanks buddy for the thumbs up.
I just noticed that your next build is going to be the Tamiya Porsche 956 LeMans winner. Knowing you, you've got some very special decals set for this build.

I got the Indycals Newman set with masks. I don't know how I managed to miss this livery the first dozen times I looked for decals for the kit! It will have to wait until I perform surgery on my Tamiya F-4E after I get my office put back together. It's the one model in my collection that I'd keep if I had to get rid of all but one. I had moved all of my models to my garage why they worked on our house and surrounded them with a wall of boxes to protect them (pics in the "Post your old models" thread). The guys still managed to damage it while accessing the circuit breaker panel. Of course, it was the only one damaged. Ben

Ben, That really sucks with the F-4E damage, but I'm sure that you can do the repairs.
Nice choice of paint scheme. Michael usually gives you the option for just the lettering and sponsor decals, and you paint the various colors, or the secondary color along with the various decals. Which way are you going? Personally, I've never had a lot of luck with those large one piece decals as I usually end up with a few wrinkles and or a misalignment or two.

I haven't sat down and planned my attack on the 956 paint scheme, yet. I'm not even sure where the kit is, at the moment! I wasn't sure how well the larger decals would work, so I went ahead and ordered the masks, too. Ben

Ismael, Thank you my friend for your thumbs up. I've been really pushing myself to concentrate on the basics over added details as my builds are strictly presentation models for myself. As a matter of fact, I've finally reached a new plateau with my air brushing, especially with clear coats. The Clear coat has gotten so smooth that I only need a easy, quick wet rub with 12,000 and then I start the 3 step polishing process by Gravity, and then wax, which I do twice, with the last application as the final finishing step of the build.

Been a good 10 days since my last update, but work has slowly but consistently going on as I'm finally on the last lap with the finish line in sight. The driver's compartment was the last of the sub assemblies required to assemble the full chassis. All that was left to add was the side panels which were previously painted with Tamiya Nato Black. Since this build is a curbside model on Steroids, there's just enough added details to the bottom of the chassis and suspension to make the build have just a little more visual interest to both the builder and viewer. The radiator and fan assembly is just a glue and drop in fit. The driver's cockpit needed perfect alignment and a nudge here and there, but it did literally pop into place. Since the topside of the sill plates will be hidden from view once the body is attached, I really didn't pay any attention to how it looks during construction. Next up was getting the shell ready for final assembly. So out came a piece of Micro Mesh #12,000, and a very light wet sanding to just smooth out any high or rough spots in the clear Gloss finish. Then the polishing proceeded with the 3 part Gravity polishing pastes, and finally their liquid wax. Honestly, this is the best finish I've ever attained to date. The four main glass pieces: front windsheild, rear window, and both side windows have a rubber gasket between each of them and the body. Nunu supplies these as sectioned decals, but I opted to go with the Decalas masks instead. Each one fit like a glove. I Airbrushed on plain old Mr. Color Matt Black as it will look glossy no matter what as you view them through the glass. After masking, I didn't have a single touch up. Another world record for me. I still have the two side air intakes directly behind the side windows to install, which are painted, decaled, polished, and waxed. All the lights, lenses, and misc. parts are next, so there's still a fair amount of work to accomplish before i cross the finish line. And thanks to all for stopping by and checking out my progress to date. It's always much appreciated. Joel

Looking great, Joel!
I’m definitely going to be getting this kit soon, to build the Magnus Racing 2016 Daytona GTLM winner.

Ben, As usual I'm looking forward to your build.
I'm trying to find a USA resource for decals, specifically the Tamiya 1/24 scale Mazda 787b in the Charge Orange/Green markings. I just heard from a vendor in Belgium via ebay and he only ships PO to PO. 5-6+ weeks. Most but no all of his shipments to the USA eventually make it to the buyer, but not all. Not exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Paul, Thanks for the thumbs up. It's greatly appreciated. The rubber gaskets turned out a lot better then the 1st time I tried masking them on another build.

That one and their Sauber Mercedes C9 are going for a lot of money, lately. The 787b was supposed to have been reissued this year, but I haven't seen it, yet. Splash Paint has the green and florescent red paint for the Charge car. Ben

Ben, As far as I can tell, Tamiya didn't release either kit as yet. I was hoping that the Mazda 787b would be re-issued with the original Charge scheme but with Cartograf decals. Looks like the kit was never released. I've seen a vid on You Tube of the Asian Hobby Show 2020 focusing on mostly Tamiya and Ebbro their Formula 1 branch. Unfortunately for us car guys, there's almost nothing new except the 1/12 scale 934 Porsche. Their focus seems to be on Armor, Gundam, and their complete range of RC cars, which as I understand it is their biggest money maker.
I was very fortunate to buy both the Tamiya 787b and Sauber Mercedes C9 kits for an excellent price here. But I'm willing to either trade or sell the 787b at this point. PM me if you're interested in the kit.

I just upgraded my home theater sound system and bought some aviation art I didn't really need, so my wife probably won't appreciate it if more boxes show up on the front porch. Ben
