Looking good, I have to admit, if I was attempting this kit. I think I would throw it at a wall. And I thought old Tamiya kits were brittle. Anyway glad to see you have the patience to tackle this.. It’s going to be useful when you jump over to the dark side 😁 Thanks Chris! I figure that I haven’t got enough money to find the Tamiya version of this kit and I am learning about repair with various media! So there is that!

Good start on the Protar T2, I know they can be a bit "fiddly", to be polite about it! I've been debating making a Protar 1/12 my next build, so this WIP is of great interest to me. Not sure which one I'll tackle, probably one of the Ferraris, 321B2 or 126C2. Please keep the updates coming! Brian Thanks Chris! I figure that I haven’t got enough money to find the Tamiya version of this kit and I am learning about repair with various media! So there is that! PS - To my knowledge, Tamiya never made the T2 (they did the 312T & 312T4 in 1/12 scale, and the 312T3 in 1/20). Chevron did a 312T2 conversion kit for the Tamiya 312T, hard to find and sells for stupid money now. If anyone has documentation of a Tamiya 312T2, please post it here.

Patrick, You're making outstanding progress on this super old and brittle (Gee, just like me) kit. Joel

The only other T2 I'm aware of is the conversion kit you referred to. I could have bought one for $60.00 and I said what? No way I'm paying that! Then I found out what they normally sold for, been kicking myself ever since!
Keep going, Patrick, you'll have a very nice and desirable model when you're done.

Sorry, guys... someone awhile back made a remark that made me to assume Tamiya did the 312T2 in a 1/12th kit. So... here is a sample of instruction sheets... not a reference as to what to do first or explanations... kind of have to figure it out as I am going Making progress on the engine... Your comments are ALWAYS welcome!

Patrick, Your comment about Tamiya making a 1/12 scale 312T2 kit confused me as your current build is the old Protar kit. As for Tamiya, yes they did indeed make that kit at one time.
As for the instructions, I'd say from your posted pictures that you've got them figured out pretty well.

Joel Well, when you are on the fourth V12 boxer engine in a row, you kind of know what little bits need to be done first and where to drill out, etc... Yes, it is the Protar... and I have a T3 and a T5 in the pile still. I figure those will get done by next year. And then it will be on to the Matra most likely! I thought I had read that there was a Tamiya 312T2 in 1/12th but then everyone came back saying this was the only kit of the subject in this scale. Thanks for clarifying. It is as clear as the butter for my lobster... see what I did there? (bad Patrick, bad Patrick).

As for Tamiya, yes they did indeed make that kit at one time. Joel Joel, I have Tamiya catalogs going back to the early 1980's, and I've never seen or heard even a rumor of a Tamiya 1/12 312T2. Any chance it was part of their 1/10 scale RC series? I would love to be proven wrong, if you have any documentation I'd love to see it. It would give me another "holy grail" kit to search for, like the Tim Richmond Old Milwaukee 1/16 Pontiac AMT kit that I saw in person, but didn't buy. Everyone says I'm full of it, but I held the darn thing in my hands! Brian

Brian, Lazy me just Googled it, and it indeed came up with positive results for the 312T2. The boxes shown only say 312T, so there's always a chance that Google is wrong. We do have a expert on Kits in Chris, so I'm sure that he can set the record straight.

One last for today... all velocity stacks in place, spark plugs ditto, most accessories as well, and starting on the transmission and rear suspension...

Other than the Protar, these are the only 1/12th T2's I've ever known of
I'd rather bite the bullet and buy the MFH kit (if you can find one), than try either the conversion or the Protar, but that's just me. However Patrick's results look excellent so far!

Thanks, Paul for the encouragement! The engine sprue looks like Superman got a little too close and it is melted in places. But nothing I can’t mush through. Thank goodness it nothing too radical!

Great detail on that engine, love flat 12's. Since this is my fourth in a series of six... I really haven’t added anything to what’s in the kit. It does have pre-made harnesses for wiring. That’s one thing about Protar. Thanks for the nice words!
