Thanks guys. Well, the chassis is finished as far as I'm concerned. A few boo boos but nothing too serious. It's really a very nice kit to build if you write your own instructions. Tamiya molded in a lot of fittings, but didn't supply the lines or any instructions as to where things go. So I did some research and applied a little common sense (OK, I guessed) and filled in the blanks. One thing I did find out is that the kit represents a car that I don't think ever raced. Tamiya may have done it from the drawings of the prototype - it's close but off in a few details. No big deal, the car literally changed every race from the previous. One drawback, Renault had a large ugly fiberglass undertray which covers the engine and tranny, once I fit it you'll never see the detail from below again. Too bad. It does mount with a screw, but it won't stay in place unless I glue it. The plus side is, the upper body is one piece and easily removable. So, as of tonight:
The paints are mostly Tamiya's with some Model Master thrown in (I still love their colours and finishes). The chrome bits got a semi gloss clear coat just to dull things down, and the exhausts their usual smoke overcoat. I like dirty exhausts!
Next is to build some wings and finish off the body. I'll post some pics when it's all done. Thanks for tuning in.

Paul, The top down views are just simply spectacular. The amount of detailing just shows every where I look. I'd vote to glue the fiberglass bottom plate on unless it's going to be a contest model, as I'm sure you won't want to keep on picking it up to turn over for anyone to see. Of course you could always make the base out of a mirror and just leave the bottom engine plate off.

Paul, Amazing work for sure. That 1st overhead shot really shows off all your added detail lines, hoses, as well as your detail painting. As for those side skirts, not sure why Tamiya would make them adjustable, but it's a great feature idea just the same. Joel They were adjustable on the actual car. This was one of the first attempts to "seal off" the bottom of the car. The Ferrari 126 had a similar set-up. Not only did the side skirts move up and down, there was a rubber skirt that attached to the bottom of the solid skirting that would provide a complete seal. (that is the grey part you see along the bottom. Tamiya faithfully replicated this but I had one get stuck to the mirrored base I was using!) I built this kit twice back in the 80s and 90s and it was very complicated to get those turbos correct! Paul, your work is amazing! I still wouldn't want to go back and build this a third time. I am pretty sure my next project in the F1 world will be the Matra. Seems like a logical step backwards. Keep up the great work, Paul! It looks amazing! BTW, I have one kit that took a dive from a shelf (hard enough to break the plexi display box) and can be used for spares. It is a little late, I know, but if the carpet monster devours something, I might be able to salvage it for you!

Patrick, it's not really that bad. You just have to talk to it in it's native language. Sort of like building a Ferrari.
This may explain why my Honda didn't turn out quite as good as I had hoped. I don't know any Japanese swear words.

It was complete. I set up (joke) to take some fancy shots, and got this far:
That's when I noticed with all the handling, the rear wing was flopping side to side and one of the rear brake scoops had come loose. No wonder the damn things DNF'd so often.
Slight delay while I CA it back together.

Some glamour shots, as in, sitting on my coffee table:
The body isn't screwed down. It fits well as it is and the screws won't help, so why bother.
Looking at the photo, the rear wing is still off a little. Its held on by a screw, It's about to get glued.
And now it can sit with its buddies.

I'd take it outside and photograph it like Chris did, but nobody makes snow tires to fit it. So, one month start to finish to build one of these things, working on nothing else (which is unusual for me) and spending way more hours per day on it than I should. At that rate, I can maybe build all the kits and ideas I have by the time I'm 108.
Thanks to everyone who looked and for the kind comments, It is appreciated.
Cheers Paul.

Great Build Sir! Looks great. The weather is the only thing worth living in California.... Put a reminder note near your finished kits to take outside photos in the spring. You could probably spend half a day geeking out on setting up and taking photos!!
What’s next on your bench?

The rear wing on my build does the same thing but it is also part of the design of the rear wing, I swear. I think Renault purposely had it wiggly so it would move in the airflow. One single point on the bottom to stabilize that large an aerodynamic surface just seems absurd.
Great work!
