;)I began looking at the Cobra thread and it hit me that the AC body of the AMT kit was very similar to a Ferrari 225S that I saw at Sears Point a few years back...I started experimenting with a junker Cobra body I had to see the possibilities... I also had an Aurora 250 GTO chassis which is "similar to" the 225S chassis and the engine is in 1/25 appearing correctly smaller than my 1/24 GTOs... I cut the Cobra's nose back and added the 3 port holes on the fairing... obviously the body got painted... the body fit well over the Ferrari chassis... At the SoCal NNL I found the shoe brakes I needed... I was able to get a new Cobra body for the final work and drew the cut on the nose... I did have the problem of the "egg crate grill" of the Ferraris of that era, but I also had two grills from AMT's terrible 250 SWB and will carefully splice them together to make an acceptable grill. That's next! The rear wheel fairings will need a change, but that's just cut and putty job. Patrick

I had a bit of time to slice the rear fender and add a sliver of rear fender to make it a bit more of a Carrozzeria Vignale look. I reinforced the inside with some 5-min.epoxy and will now proceed to putty the whole thing in. You can compare the AC body work with the modified. I'm going to cut a new rear boot to enlarge the existing AC/Cobra body. I did decide what car to do. It will be painted yellow with black roundials. It was a car driven by a Portuguesa driver, Vasco Samiero who won the 1952 Portugal GP. Besides the black on yellow, I like the Alfa quadrafolio symbol on the nose. Patrick

A bit more work on the 225S...I enlarged the boot area with a new cut... with the new lid done I could then cut the body... then I cut the other fender extension... dry fitting has helped lessen headaches... The last thing I did was to putty in the rear fenders. .. I'm off on a junket to Maine and will be back in 2 weeks. Cheers! Patrick

;)Well, I'm back to assaulting the AMT Cobra body. The paint has hastily been applied, but oh well... the grill and lights glued on... the engine test fitted...I had to lower the engine a bit as once the Weber (really, those are big Webers!) covers are installed it wouldn't clear the bonnet... The interior needs some modification for a better fit now that the rear wheels are glued on, but that's not too much. I'm going to modify the Aurora GTO interior hoping for a bit better fit than the AMT SWB interior. I did break the front rim of the Aurora/Monogram GTO so I have to scrounge up another. I seem to have only two black number circles...can any one help me with that? Patrick

This is turning out to be not so easy of a conversion as I first thought... the interior had to be cut into 3 pieces so that the seats would fit near the back and the seat backs had to be sanded down to fit closer to the back... I then had to modify the interior plate by cutting it narrower, I also had to cut down the firewall and wheel well plates... I finally got the driving lights mounted on the grill... Once this was all done I realized that the wheel base was a bit too long and chose to cut it at the front part of the frame... the engine received a fuel line and exhausts... it is getting closer to final assembly! Well, here's the cut on the chassis photo I missed... I have been doing "Honey Do" work and haven't gotten much done lately. Perhaps, some of you can relate? I can't find one Aurora/Mono wheel in the spares box! Can anyone help me with this??? Oh, why you may ask did I use a Monogram GTO? Well the early Ferrari engines were a bit smaller than the later 250 engines so the 1/25 scale unit fit the bill IMO. Patrick

It's finally coming together... a framed photo fell off the wall and chipped the darn number! the modifies engine mounts worked well by lowering the engine enough to clear the hood... the spare hood didn't fit the body, it was longer than the space...so I painted the old hood, but when I pulled it from the old body it broke...I painted it anyway. I'll find a correct one and paint it later. Patrick

I MUST be getting old and stupid. Maybe just not focused. I have the fuel lines wrong as I checked the prototype. Maybe sometime in the future I'll re-do this car and do a more correct one. I forgot the three holes on the side of the body too! I have some Vette taillights that would work great. Duh. Patrick
