Good Afternoon fellows, FINALLY (over 2 months shipping time) received a Volkl Cars 1963 Lola GT MK6 LeMans (actually Team Mecom which did NOT race at LeMans) I ordered off eBay 04 Nov 2020 from Germany. I paid $150 for this because of the rarity of a hard body MK6 but frankly, I am disappointed with the accuracy of the resin/fiberglass model. the quality of the casting is OK, no pitting and in white. The nose profile is good as is the tail except the back window appears too long. The center section is Horrid, the windshield and side windows way too high, looks like a Porsche 904 from the side. The wheels are spoked but totally incorrect and the transaxle is way incorrect and almost double sized. The engine bears a vague resemblance to a Chevy and the intakes look like a Pro-Stock minus the carbs. All in all, not worth the money nor recommended. I received last week an unknown 1/24 Mecom Lola GT MK6 slot body painted green I believe is a Lancer surely not the Champion version. It is actually pretty nice but different from the early MK6 I received a bout 3 months ago and featured in an earlier thread. Comparing all three you can see differences. I'm still stripping paint from the clear and green bodies. The green body has much more accurate headlight covers than the clear body. There are at least three more MK6s out there, another older Lancer #1 car, and either a Shark or Stormer #1 car really rough. And the Champion Mecom version but the headlight cover are too long. Attaching photos of the Volkl and the Lancers? I love Lola GT MK6s and al three will e built on IMC/Testors/Union Ford GT chassis, one is almost completed. Lots of research work, but then I'm a Logistics Analyst in the real world. Thanx for viewing, John

Looks like it got punted in the rear and compressed the back end and middle, not good.

This will be good to watch as I have one of Pierpaolo Pintarelli's Lola GTs inbound.

Sorry to hear that your $150 kit isn't worth it as it's so clearing not even close to either of those slot car bodies. looking forward to seeing how you progress through those builds.

I looked for years for a Volkl Porsche 914/6 GT kit unsuccessfully. Finally decided to take on the conversion myself. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Maybe that is the best solution for the Lola GT.

Thanks for the lucid, detailed, excellent review. The Mark 6 has forever lived in the shadow of its offspring, the Ford GT40, which obscures it's revolutionary impact on sports prototype racing. The result is that it has never been offered in a mass produced 1/24th model kit. So a review like this is especially valuable given the cost of the few scale kits available. Have you seen or examined the DPP Models version (see: DPP Models Catalog)? It looks like a fairly true representation to my eyes. What do you think? The pricing (125.00 Euro plus shippinh and applicable taxes) is similar.

I just got a quote of €150 plus €15 for shipping costs and €8 due to PayPal fees. Grandtotal €173. I'm also in the EU and don't incur any import duty at that. It looks fantastic, but its a bit saucy for having no engine detail. On a slightly different note where is the vacform on the left of this image from. You probably mentioned it in the intro but dispite reading it a few times I missed it. Just wondering if its a Pattos place vacform of which I have one bought in an attempt to build by slush molding Smoothon resin into the shell as a base to work from.

I'm not really sure about either clear bodies, I definitely can say the right is not a Champion. I had that and an early #1 of 3 Lola GTs that was really rough but it did have the NACA duct in the roof. I believe both Shark and Stormer did MK6s and cannot confirm that Lancer did two but I had the Lancer ad it was NOT a Mecom. The IMC/Union/Testors GT40 and MK II chassis are good but need to be narrowed about 1/8 inch either side (see photo 1), wheelbase is close, someone did some great wheels, Mini-Exotics maybe. I made seats from narrowed Burrago Ferrari 250 LM photo 3 (not bad). My MK 6s are in the San Diego Automotive museum with the rest of my projects unless they gave them to children to play with (ARGH!).

Looks Great! You can get some nice Cortina tail lights from either of the two 1/25 MPC Howmet turbine cars, the coupe is rare and expensive while the Can-Am is cheap (I got two for under $20.00 w/i last year). Both are built by McKee and make a good base for a '64 Chevette or McKee or a Cooper-Ford/King-Cobra. I've got a thread on this site for the McKee. Thanx, John

Afternoon Fellows, It's been awhile since I've touched the two Lola GT MK VI's. I've been working on Five Corvette Grand Sports, Two Sting Ray home town track racers and Two Chevy concept body combines. I was buying some cut down racing windshields for the Sting Rays, a pair of glass packs for the #3 GS, Ford 427 SOHC valve covers from the same ebay vendor last week when I spied a set of Four chrome plated mag wheels for a "64 Olds F-85" that looked pretty Damn close to the 1963 Lola GT MK VI original mag wheels, so close I bought a set. They came in today and I am Happy as a Clam. They are exactly the SAME, except the AMT wheels have three-blade knock offs where the MK VI had a large nut retainer. Where in the Heck did GM get these for the Olds F-85, are they the same, who was the vendor? Can someone answer? I thought Olds used a steel wheel like the Kelsey-Hayes Ford put on the Mustang. Anyway, I contacted the vendor and he had one set left which I just bought. Years ago I had a very good resin set from I think, Mini-Exotics. All my earlier Lola GT MK VI project is at the San Diego Automotive museum if still there. They sell off excess auto books, magazines and models at local auto swap meets. Thanx for viewing, John
