:oWOW! Those are pretty cool cars and great kit finds, as usual for you! Perhaps a late-CanAm car conversion?

The MCS-5 is an F2 or F3, the -8 is an F3000 chassis.

The MCS-8 uses a March F3000 and a Judd/Cosworth DFV, The MCS-5 I am not sure about but probably the same. The Mooncraft website is pretty cool too, it is a Japanese company. I found it a bit back but cant find the link.. Had some good pics of both along with some aerodynamic and tech info.. Chris

I would say mid-late 80's. I'll confirm when mine arrives from Austria.

I have a Marui "Tilt" 1/24 Toyota Celica Turbo Group 5. It was NOT a "Trial Racing" car, but did come with an electric motor like the Tamiya car models of the late 70s-early 80s. The body for it is injection molded and pretty close in quality to the Tamiya kit of the same subject, but adds (well done) opening doors. All of the Japanese made Trial race cars I saw in the era (80s) had injection molded bodies.
Note that "Trial Racers" are like slot cars, but with fences between lanes to guide the cars instead of slots or the earlier rails. It didn't seem to catch on in the US.
The right side intakes on these cars makes it obvious that the engines are 4-cylinder inline. That, combined with the large size of the drivers helmets in the photos of the 1:1 cars, indicates they are F2-derived chassis. Maybe with Toyota/Nissan/Mazda, etc. engines.
Ohh... and the name "Tilt" is from the the Japanese characters for the company name (look at the lower corner of the boxes) looking to those of us who read "Romaji" (Japanese slang for European writing). To us it looks rather like the English word "Tilt". So if you go looking for models under the "Tilt" name, you may not find them listed that way.

If anyone is interested in building a full chassis model from these, perhaps a 1/28 scale 1980s Indy car kit would serve?

There are several F-1 Entex 1/28 kits that could donate a chassis ... might be a nice set up. Chris

Well it's finally arrived and it's a vacform body. It's looks pretty good but the F2 intake is poorly moulded. I'm going to back fill it and make a couple resin copies and use the intake from my March 762 kit.

Here you go... I have started casting the Lotus, just waiting on decals. The Marches will likely be early 2014, who knows on the Gordini. Hosted on Fotki
