A company that previously made figure kits apparently has revived the old Merit/Smer kits of the Alfa Romeo 158 and the Talbot Lago F-1 kits that recently were hard to find and going up in price. The 2 kit set sells for $33.95 at Megahobby.com.. Great to see these back out and one can only hope they also now have the Lotus XI, D-Type Jag, Cooper MK IX 500, and so ,any more very hard to find Merit kits!! Chris

I've only ever built one Merit kit, the Alfa Romeo, and it can be built into a decent looking model.

That's fantastic news ! I have an old Alfa glue bomb, but haven't thought of doing it yet. I'd like the Maserati 4CLT/48! It can be finished in red, yellow-blue bonnet, blue-yellow bonnet, red-white bonnet...get the idea? Mike Q had one he did for MRRC. Patrick

Anyone know where Tom Coolidge is now? He resin-cast almost the whole Merit line (I know as I supplied some original kits to him). Nicely done castings. He did some other stuff like the Lindberg Daytona Cobra.

Here is the Alfa I built a while back, I used Herb Deeks photo etch Borrani wheels and his excellent tires, unfortunately he no longer makes the tire or metal rims but still produces a Photo etch Borrani wire wheel transkit that works with the kit rims. I deleted the engine and formed a aluminum tube exhaust on this curbside build. The only other thing I did was to use some clear sheet for the windscreen as the kit piece was way too thick.. Chris

Thanks, Art! Doesn't look like he's doing any of the Merit kits anymore.

While these particular cars don't really flip my personal switch, some of the Merits would be more than welcome! As mentioned above, the Lotus 11, Cooper 500 (even though I have a Herb Deeks), D-Jag would all be good.
And I really SHOULD build a Maser in Yellow with blue trim as driven by Prince Biro. I met him at the Cunningham museum in about 1968. A real Prince of a guy! ... Aside from actually BEING the Crown Prince of Siam (later usurped by his cousin in a coup d'etat). Mike Quarterman said in a small article in MRRN that he acquired a model of a yellow Maser from the Museum when it was closed down and most of the collection went to the Collier Brothers. In his article, he expressed a lack of knowledge of what car it represented and why it would have been the only model car in the Cunningham museum. When I met him, the Prince had been living with the Cunninghams in their Orange County home for about 6 months.

I've seen Michael's 4CLT-48 and read his article. The Maser is quite interesting in this scheme. I like Fangio's version myself.
