Two of them. The 917K as Vic Elford's Sebring winner, and the 917-026 Spyder Interserie/CanAm conversion. In other words, not the 917PA.
Some background. Porsche built two Spyders, the first was a test mule, never raced, and was modified more times than a 70 yr old playboy bunny. It ended up being the 16 cylinder car on display at the museum. The second was the 917PA, Siffert's CanAm car. The body I have is not quite right for it, so I skipped trying to duplicate it. Several other spyders were privately built from crashed coupes, 917-026 being one of them. After the wild yellow and red Interserie version, it was soldto Vasek Polak, so I'm giving mine that paint scheme. I believe when Polak had it, it was raced with a front clip more similar to the 917/10, but you can't have everything.
I'm using the Heller kits for these builds, mainly because I'm certifiably nuts. Bear in mind I started all this about 2 years ago. The idea was to build both at once, using one to learn for the other (they're Heller kits, enough said). This is where I got to on the coupe:
Chris is building the same car, he can testify how much fun a Heller tube frame is to put together.
Then I switched to the spyder. One thing I had to do was make a drivers seat. I took a 3D printed bucket (left), made it into a reasonable facsimile (center) and sectioned the kit seat to be the passenger seat (right).
The rear kit tube frame, test fitted. It's completely wrong for the spyder, plus the engine won't fit in it:
Fast forward to now. Frame scratch built from styrene rod, engine in, much cursing involved
The spyder will of necessity be a curbside, but a lot will show, so some detailing done.
I added a lot of tube frame that might show, scratch built the dash, added the oil lines etc.
The body does fit, but it's a tight squeeze. That's where I'm at.
I told you I was nuts.

Truly certifiable my friend. 😃 That’s looking completely amazing considering what you’re working with.

Heller kits are fine products. You must realize that they are not a kit that you assemble. They are a bunch of very nice parts that you can use to scratch build a nice model.

Does the term, glutton for punishment, ring a bell? Seriously, the work to date looks very cool.

The Heller based kits are the good ones. The others are much, much worse.

I feel mad myself browsing the interwebs for horrible old bits of plastic all the time so no doubt I’ll make a terrible mistake one day. Lol

Maybe it ended up being the PA after all. Checking some photos, there was a car at the factory that looked a lot like this body, just raw aluminum and a weird nose colour. Whatever, my spyder, I like how it turned out:

Nice and clean. Everything that is there has a purpose towards the goal of speed. Nothing else! Love it!
Thanks, Ismael

Thank you guys, I like the look of the PA, real old fashioned proper race car.
Not to forget it's sibling, some progress on the K
The Heller kit comes well detailed, I added some missing bits
getting there!

It's finally finished, years later. Vic Elford's Sebring winner, or close enough.
Indycals decals, which despite being 1/24th scale as is the car, didn't really fit too well. In fairness, I think Michael designed them for the Fujimi and this is a Heller. Whatever, we improvise.
The inner fenders normally get glued to the chassis, but I chose to make them integral to the body shell simply because it displays better that way.
The tube frame is 20% kit and 80% scratch - it's much more authentic plus it fits, which is a plus.
The Porsche prototypes, so far:
cheers guys
Paul
