With all my on going projects and planned ones I needed to start another model like I needed another... anyway here's the old Monogram Scarab. The body required a fair bit of smoothing out as the side panels were very uneven. This is the recent reissued kit. I don't have a original kit for comparision so I don't know if the original was like this or the molds are showing their age (50 years!). I opened the front grill which will be filled with p/e screen from the inside. The Scarab had tunnel tail light housings so I created this using drink straws superglued in place and sanded smooth to the body. I opened up the areas between each spoke on the kit wheels (still cleaning them up some). I have a jar of MCW Mecom Blue metallic to use on it also. At this point I'm debating which Scarab to do. One can be done as the body is now or with a few slight mods a number of others, all with different markings, can be done. I'm saving the highly modified open rear wheel well-big rear deck vent-white wheels Scarab (the best looking one!) for latter as I have an old Ricambi p/e update kit to use on that project. Hope you like it. Sandy

My build made it this far before I set it aside. Look forward to see what you do with the kit.

My build made it this far before I set it aside. Look forward to see what you do with the kit. Hopefully, I'll make it a little farther, but I'm not making any promises. I'm trying to find that happy medium between adding enough detail to bring it out of the Dark Ages, but not so much that it starts getting bogged down and drags on forever. Sandy

It's hard not to correct and add detail especially when you start with such a nice blank canvas like this kit is.

I've got two of these Kits. One to do the original and one to do The Pabst Car. I'll be watching this one. Hey, Sandy any chance you might show a Pic of the Ricambi P/E update Kit? I've got their Decal sheet, but wasn't aware of a P/E Sheet!

Thank's Sandy, nice selection of detail parts there. Would have been nice had they included Resin Scoops (large n small), then every version would have bee covered - Ok another Raydot Rearview Mirror also..... Too bad I waited so long to return to the Hobby because when Ricambi and UMi were less than 15 miles away I was selling Equipment for Amateur Astronomy from my home - Ahhh the Toys I coulda had...............
Funny for such a simple Kit just how hard it is to build!

This is cool, Sandy. I like that car and am looking forward to following along. I know you'll do it justice.

Go Sandy! The Hansgen/Pabst Scarab looks great with the white Minilites! Patrick Patrick, let's not forget Lance Reventlow who had it built and first raced it and some dude named A.J. Foyt who drove the Car to it's first win.

JC- I've heard Ricambi did a detail set for the Monogram Ferrari also. Can anyone confirm this? Patrick- The great looking Hansgen/Pabst car is my ultimate goal. This is kind of a test run. Ed- Yeah, some rear fender and side scoops would have been nice! Art- Thx, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! It's make a decision time, I'm going with AJ's Laguna Seca #91 car with the odd numbers on the side which make it kind of unusual looking. But first I'll have to close up the access holes on top of the body behind the interior. Thoughts before I get started?- vintage-sportscar-photos.com/portfolio.php?pageNum_rsPhotographs=26&totalRows_rsPhotographs=337Sandy

I'm not aware of a detail set for the Monogram Ferrari. Would like to see one though.

I'm not aware of a detail set for the Monogram Ferrari. Would like to see one though. I just checked with a buddy who has a partial Herb Deeks set. That must be what I'm thinking about. I do have the Ricambi decal sheet for Monogram's Ferrari 250P/275P. It has markings for cars #20, 21, 30 and Mario's dark blue (metallic?) #18. Sandy

A favorite of mine!
I built this one in 2004 with aftermarket decals (Ricambi or Cady, I'm not sure). As I recall it's AJ.s car at Bridgehampton.
During the build I got to looking at the body and had the thought that with a little massageing you could turn it around and make an early to mid '50s phantom show car.
I'll follow your build with great interest
