Ah yes...The Cheater car. I have deep respect for Roger Penske. But in the 1966 year model, when that car was raced with a 427 engine, Chevrolet did not offer a 427 engine to the public. Just a 396. All iron. No aluminum heads. So it wasn't legal for FIA GT class. But it won its class at Sebring anyway. Just as the 1963 NASCAR Chevys raced with the 427 "Mystery Motor" that wasn't available to the public then either. And even the racers were not allowed to see what was inside those engines. Even if they blew up on the track.
I have one of those Penske Corvette kits waiting its turn on the build table too though.
