In the planning stage of this build but wanted to make sure I could get the 1:24 scale Monogram AAR hood the fit the 1:25 scale Revell Cuda. I think it works.

Great project JC !!! I have always wanted to do Dan Gurney's car that he drove in his last race.

Thanks Randy. I better hurry up I don't want to try and compete with your build. Richard I hope this looks a little more race worthy.

And just to keep you guys awake I will be doing the less well known color, more Sonoco Blue than the traditional Gurney Blue.

Thanks Art. Not the easiest conversion I've attempted. Added more kicker bars and a rubber o-ring to simulate the hood scoop seal.

I felt the Fireball Modelworks tires were a bit too large. Here is a mock-up with the Sports Car Special tires found in numerous Revellogram kits.

Very interesting crankcase breather, and you've done a great job of duplicating it!

The 2nd set of tires looks better. The fronts maybe a bit too small.

I found tires sizes for the Bud Moore '70 Mustangs these would be similar to what the Gurney team ran: Wheels : Minilite Magnesium 15 x 8
Tires : 5.00/11.5-15 front, 5.80/12.00-15 rearThe set I am using are not wide enough (8.3 front, 11.4 rear) but I think the diameter and sidewall height are at least close and I'm happy with the look. The tires in the Fireball set are too large for my project being 6.00/10.7-15 front, 8.00/12.5-15 rear. Check out this photo, the website wont let me copy/paste the picture but I think my tire choice looks pretty close. revslib.stanford.edu/catalog/gz331nv0613

That crossover breather system was pretty common for NASCAR, Trans Am, And production class V8 race cars in the era. If you had breathers on the valve covers, Oil tends to collect in the outboard valve cover in the sustained turns. Then it blows out the breather all over the engine compartment. That gets oil on the headers causing smoke, drips on the track and potentially fire. Racers with such problems get black-flagged and pulled off the track to fix the oil problem. Putting the breathers near center on the crossover tube fixes that issue while still allowing plenty of ventilation.
