The issue with any commercial Indy car kits is that the Indy Organization sold the lic. rights for these cars to the diecast companies, who sold a ton of them at the track as well as to model retailers. Same with the Nascar kits that use to dominate your LHS shelves. And I believe that F1 is doing the same thing.

Joel Hopefully the contracts are written in a way that would allow a bit of non-direct competition. Revell issued a few NASCAR kits a few years ago, which in theory would be pretty direct competitors to the diecasts as both were 1/24. Every contract is different, but hopefully that’s an indicator that is is at least possible. Obviously Tamiya seems like the most likely company to produce Indycar kits. Maybe if Takuma Sato were to have a big year (unlikely as it may be), that would make it a more attractive option to the Japanese market. Every year there are rumors of Indycar expanding out of the North American footprint. If that were to ever come about, it could help make the kits more appealing to the rest of the world. I’d say it’s a long shot, but with a few good breaks I can see potential for Indycar kits to be successful. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Rob, The only real interest in Indy car models was the long run from AMT in 1/25th scale, and Monogram's 1/24 scale that weren't nearly as well molded. I still search on ebay for the AMT kits and will buy a few when the prices are reasonable. There are some excellent Multi media resin kits, but honestly the prices are a little to high for me, and I'm really concerned that my current skill level isn't high enough to complete the build. On the Open Wheel Board, Calvin Salee is looking for sports cars to produce as resin kits...I suggested LeMonstre and a few people would like it as well...if you have resin kit ideas, please let him know...the more interest there is, the better the odds that he will produce it... Thanks! Tim
