I know I have mentioned that my Dad and my Mom entered the Concourse portion of the series and my Dad was the Overall Concourse Champion, I though I would share some of the Cars & articles from it. First car is the Pacesetter Lola T70 this one I believe he started with a Lancer Body. next is his Ferrari 206sp that was a scratch built body, this was the Master for the Cox Ferrari 206sp set ,next is the BRM my Mom Built , middle page, it had a working differential and articulated Steering, she took second in Concourse. Next is the Spyder version of the Ferrari 206sp also scratch built and a Master for the two body Cox set . I thought I had the page with the Chaparral 2D Master that won the Concourse also but?? Here is a pic from the Marconi museum with his Box and some of the cars he built and Mom's BRM. He gave the box when the shop closed P. De Lespinay who saved it and put on display in the Marconi Museum and now it is in the Los Angeles Slot Car Museum on permanent display. The Chaparral 2D Master was recently sold by the museum for huge bucks being so rare. a better pic of the BRM and some of his cars.. I have more pics some where but now he is 89 and has dementia a lot of the early days of slot racing history will only be told by me... Enjoy!! Chris

I had one of those Cox Ferrari sets. Unfortunately there isn't much left since Sylmar '71. Bob Bondurant driving the PaceSetter Homes Lola... In spite of what many Can Am fans would consider to be Lothar Motschenbacher's number...

In spite of what many Can Am fans would consider to be Lothar Motschenbacher's number... I wish I could get my hands on that set but at about $700. + it will have to wait... Remember it wasnt actually Can Am back in 1966 when the Pacesetter Lola was built it was still USRRC and in transition to the new No Rules Can Am.. I have a few books on the USRRC series and I really love that period in sports car racing, all my early USRRC kits are waiting to be built, McLaren MK-I , Mclaren Elva, Lola T70 Spyder , Hussein and more.. Wwwwwwwweeelllllllll.... 1966 was the 1st year of the Can Am. The USRRC was still going and was mostly the same competitors. That ran through at least '68. I remember Mark Donohue winning Riverside USRRC in his McLaren M6B. So that HAD to be at least '68.
I DO believe the Pacesetter Homes (real estate developer) Lola started out as a 1965 Lola T70 Mk1, then got upgraded in '66 to a Mk2.
Those AMT 1/25 scale USRRC models were pretty well done. Shame they didn't have detailed chassis to go underneath. I only ever got the Hussein. I still have the body, a bit beat up. Still painted metallic purple. It'll be a bit of work to build detailed chassis for those you have (and my Hussein too).
Seems to me that in the 1965 USRRC, the overall championship winner was George Follmer in his Elva Mk6-Porsche. The little 2 liter beat all the much bigger V8s.
Your folks built some very cool slot cars Chris. I always liked the detailed slot cars and disliked the later "funny cars".
