I started watching Tim drive his #25 Folgers Monte Carlo( in the 80's) like a man possessed. That's when he caught my attention. I hadn't realized that he(like quite a few other drivers) had started their careers in the short track Dirt arenas. In fact.....I'd found out about his Super Modified racing a few yrs back when I saw his car at the WORLD of SPEED Museum in Wilsonville, Ore. I took a whole slew of pics of that car and will build it in the future.
In order to get the PC-7 for this build..an AMT PC-6 was used for the Donner. The side pods had to be cut off and and rebuilt to represent the side pods of the first down force car to run at Indy. Trying to get measurements for the correct dimensions on the side pods was next to nothing that I could find. Going by the few pics that I have I went forward. The engine cowl had to be re-worked as it also was different. In the front shot of the 1/1 car I saw that they rounded off all leading edges leading into the side pod tunnel. I"ve got that like I want it and now...I have to build the curved ramp that deflects the air flow out through the top of the side pod.
The Donner kit.... Here are a few pics of the progress to this point. A lot more work is to be done on the body and the side panel for the side pods. A head rest has to be fabbed also. Thanks for stopping in and looking folks....

I didn't recall Richmond racing in Indycars so I did a search. Is this his rookie car Gary?

Tim always had a good sense of humor! Nice start on this one, Gary. Don't forget about the Fine Scale Modeler article on converting the PC-6 to a PC-7. I can look up which issue for you if you want.

Of course, for a REALLY interesting project, you could do this slightly different Supermod that Tim tested, built by Kenny Reece:

Thanks for the Compliment 4Whls. I do have that FSM article. It don't do much but maybe give a person a small look at the shapes that's need to build the side pod. No measurements at all. It also says it's templates are in 1/25 and that's not true. Way to big. To build this car the way I want to build it(as close as I can to the 1/1...with very few pic ref..) all I've got is a few pictures from the net. But...that's a good thing....it's coming together. The air deflecting "RAMPS" were built today. I'll have update pics soon. Again....Thanks for info 4whls...it's appreciated....
Oh...I do have a few pics of that insane super modified that he tested. I don't think I'd get close to that thing..... I do want to build his Orange FULL BORE offset Roadster that he drove. Now that is a very cool Super Modified.

Hey Gary - You're right, the Full Bore car would be a fun build. I wish I had more pics of it. Haven't looked at the FSM article in a long time, I remember it as being pretty basic. Have a couple of Blueline's conversion kits for the PC-7, haven't attempted one yet. Please keep the pics coming, I love these WIP threads!

Hey Brian....I have quite a few pics that I shot while at the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville Ore. If you want some...just let me know. Also...who is Blue line? Can a person still get that conversion kit for the pc-7? I know that Lance Sellers did one a few yrs back and don't(won't) pour anymore. Soooo...I'm doing next best thing....fabbing my own...LOL..

Here's a small update. I've got the ramps built on both side pods. Now I can get the side panel for each side drawn and added along with the 2 top panels in the engine area. Here's a few pics ....thanks for looking in and commenting folks...

Thanks Jc and Brian..and yes...those are the kit tires and wheels. I striped ALL the chrome off. I used Clorox Concentrated Laundry Bleach. Works REAL good. I've used regular laundry bleach for striping for yrs but tried the thick stuff...man...it works faster. Good stuff.
