Just a quick update, I have been slowly working on this project, I have encountered a few problem with the hRM Gurney Eagle engine that I am correcting, the valve covers are too tall and the wrong shape, i am a bit nervous about cutting them down but it wouldnt be the craziest thing I have done to a part. and next is the heads themselves where the HRM engine has the spark plug holes is where there should be a row of head bolts , the plugs are actually a bit higher and next to the exhaust ports, so again I am correcting that. Pics to follow... Chris

I have been working on these Weslake Eagle valve covers all week, first cutting the base off, and drilling the #87 holes in the base for the Allen Head Bolts, then sanding little by little to get the height and shape I was looking for. The HRM resin used on these is very dense and hard to sand..but I was able to reduce them from 372mm to 300mm and I think they are close.. this the correct profile on the valve covers... gettin there! I had thought about doing the passenger side seat as seen in this rare photo.. but I am trying to stick to the actual Alan Mann lightweight.. this would make sense for a lightweight though.. Chris

Just as a quick side note. I was watching the last few cars being auctioned off at the Jackson Barrett auction right before the Nascar Qualifying races were due to start, and the last car was a Ford GT40 Mk 1 in absolutely perfect condition. It sold for $6.8 Million! Talk about an expensive hobby.

OK I have been so busy on this build, getting the valve covers straightened out. as you can see they are very much like the the actual Gurney Eagle GT40 engine now. I had to cut so much off the height a little at a time it took forever.. So I will do the silver accents and finally move on to the Intake and Webers..I hope to have more soon.. Chris

Those covers look great. I went through a GT40 cycle when the Fujimi kits first appeared and have now came back around for another look. The amount of 'net reference has really grown since my first foray. Your build has furthered my knowledge of the Alan Mann lightweights and I've always liked that red and gold paint scheme.

Thanks Daryl... Feel free to use the reference in my Fotki albums public.fotki.com/pmodwrks/1-16-ford-gt40/ this one is packed with good info including factory drawings, I keep these albums to make building easier and so modelers dont have to spend so much time searching for reference. In this album you will see my stalled 1/16 AMR GT40 01/02 scratchbuild too... Enjoy all the Fotki albums.. Chris

Chris, Those covers are truly impressive. Honestly.
I went looking for the After Market engines as I have 2 of the Fujimi kits, and now they're all marked as out of production. I'm still not thrilled with how my 330 P4 looks with just that plate to cover the blank engine bay, but such is life. Better to go that route, then no route at all.

I added the silver lettering and took a shot to show how much I shortened the valve covers to make them look like the ones in the photo.. more to come.. Chris

Chris, You've got the hands of a surgeon to be able to pick out the Gurney Eagles that precisely. Joel

Thanks Joel, I screwed up on one thing, I drilled the bolts out on the intake carb spacers and replaced them with .015RB Motion bolts, but I had originally intended to make the Aluminum Carb Tray that sits on top of them. now it wouldnt sit flat if I made it. like the one in this pic, I do have pics of the car without it so I am not sure what way to go.. I can carefully remove the bolts and proceed then scratchbuild the Tray and put the carbs inside with fuel lines and linkage. or just mount them and add the accessories, What Do You Guys Think???
