OOB of Fujimi... Engine has VRM decals on windshield washer bottle and oil filter: the rest is OOB... Roger Penske was an excellent driver before he became a car owner... He won one of the Nassau races in 1962, driving for John Mecom...the car had belonged to NART, and you can see where the Mecom stickers were put over the NART stickers... The kit is fabulous...even the kit wire wheels were well done... I didn’t BMF the windows because I was thinking “race car” rather than “street car”...but these beauties are chrome hounds! I have left over VRM decals for 4-5 other cars if anybody wants to try... Thanks for stopping by and looking! Tim W.Brown: It’s not the best build on here, but I like it! Now I have a Penske car with some history on my shelf...

Beautiful model of an iconic car as driven by an iconic driver. Looks great!

Great livery on the 250! I don't think there were seat belts in the car as it was 62 and most drivers didn't use them. The model does look great! Patrick

Tim, An excellent build for sure. Fujimi does engineer some great car models when they put their minds to it. Love how you built up the V12.
Penske is my all time favorite team owner from 1966.

[! I don't think there were seat belts in the car as it was 62 and most drivers didn't use them.]
I have had this discussion before. You are correct that many drivers didn’t use them and the 250 GTO did not come with them. However, RP was an SCCA driver and lap belts were mandatory from 1956 on...so I guessed that he would have installed them...not trying to start an argument, because the history of seat belts in Auto Racing history is murky, to say the least...Gurney used seat belts at Indy from 1962, but his 67 Eagle did NOT have them...he thought the high octane fuel in F1 would burn up an unconscious driver...there are many tales of Jim Clark not using them, including his pole run at Indy in 1964...I believe he was NOT wearing one at Hockenheim when he was killed... When I built my Mecom Scarab, I included a lap belt because it seemed like AJ would have been very used to them by 1963...but who knows for sure? Tim
PS: Thanks for all the comments guys!

Rookie You've made some very valid and interesting points about seatbelts in various series during the 1960s. About the only way to actually know car by car is to have a picture of the car during that race. But as I stated in my earlier post, your build is simply top shelf.

Gentlemen: Thanks for the comments! I appreciate your time... Patrick: You can PM JC about the decals...he asked first, so they go to him...the sheet has about 6 cars left, including a white one that raced at Candlestick Park! JC has promised a WIP and I can’t wait... Tim

JC: I really liked the white w/ blue stripes and red numbers... I did not know that there were races around Candlestick Park in San Francisco from 1963 to 1965...they used the parking lot at “ the Stick” to make a 2 mile, 10 turn course with a 4500’ straight...Phil Hill famously said it was the most dangerous track he ever drove...2 deaths in 1965 doomed the race, and Sears Point (now Sonoma) was opened in 1968...this link shows the Frank Crane 250 GTO during the race... goo.gl/images/JkueZZI learn something new every time I build a model... I attended the first and last as it turned out Grand Prix of Washington DC - the track was laid out in the parking lots at RFK stadium.
