I put a little more work in on the interior of the car today. The PC-17 did not have a digital dash, it still had the analog dials on the dash. I did have some digital dashes that Checkered Flag Details had made some years ago, but I had used them all up in some of the other Penskes I had built. Thank goodness for Evergreen plastic strip, sheets and rods! I scratch built a digital dash for the PC-18. You can see it here in the right side of the picture. I also built my own shifter and linkage, along with the sway-bar adjusters or weight jackers. Next I’ll get to working on the seat belts and paint the interior parts. I’ll report back when I get it all together. Jim

Jim, The dash and "pit" is really coming together quite nicely. Looking forward to your next update for sure.

I got a little more time in today on the PC-18. Here is the finished seat with seat belts. I was also able to get the tub finished along with the dash, now to get it all together. I got a few other little things to do. I need to make the pop-off valve and the vent hose receptacle. I also have to get the mirrors made and get the windscreen ready. Then I have to get it all put together. Maybe next time! Jim

Jim, excellent progress on those sub assemblies. The seat with the 6 way harness is simply outstanding.

The paint and decal work on this build look outstanding Jim. Real first class job on this car. The seat belts look great as well.

JC, the seat belt hardware is from Crazy Modeler sets. A few years back while at my local Home Depot store I came across a package of electrical type tape, with all different colors. I got to thinking and I used the tape for the fabric. It works so much easier. I cut the end of the tape to a point. Once fed through the clasp opening, I can fold the tape back on itself, holding the clasps in place. The tape just sticks to the seat once I'm done. Since the tape is glossy, I can use badge decals right onto the tape, and use a little Solvaset on the to help them set down on the tape. Once that is completed, I gave them a little bit of a wash with some gloss black thin way out, that way it flows into all the cracks and crevices! Once complete I then spray the whole thing with flat clear and voila!

Well just when I thought I didn't have anymore I did find some Checkered Flag Detail dashes hidden among some other stuff. Back in the late 80s early 90s Checkered Flag Details made some really nice dash detail sets for the Penskes and Lolas. Here is a picture of what the sets look like; The dash on the left is for the 1989 Lola, while the dash on the right is for the 1990 Penske. The set came complete with a steering column. I don't know what the demand would be, but it would be great if Checkered Flag would make more of these dashes. I know I would be in for at least a few! Checkered Flag details also made some nice wheel covers for Indy cars. I'm sure I used some up over the years, but this is what I have left. I have a set for a Truesports car, Penske car and a Lola. I got everything to fit and crammed it in that little cockpit! This is the finished product. I then spent a little time making my own pop-off valve for the PC-18. Well it's coming down to the wire, should be done in the next day or two! Jim
