TJ, thanks for the link. Interesting take on the difficulties and the cost. Gregg in Model Cars suggested a 1/32 Aston Martin body was only $39 and a full 1/16 Offy Midget engine $44 and gave this company address which you might find entertaining: www.tdrinnovations.com/ with the purchasing part linked back to Shapeways.com Off to Bob's for cruise night. Cheers, Ken

Always wondered about the true red of the first race Cobra as I had only seen B&W photos. (this photo is a better render of the actual model color.) this is the first color shot I have ever seen of that 1st race on Saturday, Oct. 13, 1962. From the autopuzzle.com thread.

What a line up of cars that is.Could build them all, but what is the far right one...sort of looks like a Lotus 11, but not sure.

Yes a great line with in first an Austin Healey A106,a Porssche 356 Speedster, the Cobra, three Corvettes and yes a Lotus 11.The pace car was a Pontiac Catalina 1963. To the Austin & Porsche You can use the Revell model cars, and to the Corvette 1963,you have the AMT.And finally for the Lotus 11,just only any kits in 1/24 with the Merit, the Profil 24,H models or the Premier Model Co. And for the Pontiac Catalina you have the excellent kit from AMT. Greeings.

The car to the right is a Lola! Yes, not a Lotus...a Lola!

;D ;D Yep!...A great mistake...But a Lola MK1 with the 1100 Coventry Climax 4Cyl. or the MK1A with the 1500 Martin-Ford 4Cyl.,and if I know any of these Lola in 1/43,any chances to find this car in 1/24?
Greetings.

For more pics from this 1962 race, check this Dave MacDonald site. www.davemacdonald.net/gallery/closeups/00stingray.htmAnd speaking of doing them all... there are two Sunbeam Alpines with Bruce McLaren and Jack Brabham driving plus a full assortment of easily found kits including a 300SL roadster. Wow!

Love the drivers meeting on the track, since my birthday is in Oct. my Dad always gave me the choice of what I wanted to do Riverside for the races or Disneyland, I always picked Riverside.. I was at this race although only 7 years old.. Chris Like Chris, my birthday is late October. The 26th to be precise. Which means that from my 3rd birthday to my 19th (1958 to 1974), the weekend closest to it was spent at Riverside Raceway for the Times GP. With my parents working at the races, and me helping with Timing until 1962, then working Tech from the start of '63 on, I always knew where I was going to celebrate. Disneyland was for the uncommon non-race weekend. I like your Cobra Ken. It's pretty good. Some PE wheels and slimmer tires and trimming the hoop off the bumper would make up most of the inaccuracies. The red is as close as I can remember it. I would choose a simple Testors 1103 red. I built my 1st AMT 289 Cobra kit from the initial release as a model of the Cobra as it took its 1st win in March of 63 with Dave McDonald at the wheel. Painted white, but with the same #98 on it, I have long believed it to be the same car as Billy Krause's ride at the Times GP. I later learned that in the early days, Shelby was repainting some of his cars repeatedly to convince FIA, SCCA, magazine people and others that there were more Cobras built than there really were at the time. My dad got a ride around Riverside at a race a little earlier in the year than the times GP in a bright yellow-gold metallic Cobra with Shelby driving. Then several years later in a conversation with a Tech co-worker whose day job was working for Shelby I was told about the paint changing scheme and was told of several of the colors that particular car went through. Unfortunately, my Dave McDonald #98 Cobra is still in pieces since the 1971 Sylmar earthquake did massive damage to it. My other circa 1967 quick-build B/Prod 289 survived though. I currently have 1 AMT 289 Cobra, 1 Sunny "427" Cobra (an AMT 289 with 427 nose and rear fenders), 2 IMC/Lindberg Cougar IIs and a pair of Revellogram 427 Cobras (1 getting a 1960s vintage vacuum formed slot car "FlipTop" Cobra body) on my workbench. The Cougar IIs are getting built as phantom racers. One as a 1964 era FIA GT as if Shelby used that already created body instead of developing the Brock design Daytona Coupe. Stock chassis with an AMT 67 Mustang GT350 289 with Webers. The other as a late-70s Group 5 style with a 427 chassis and engine underneath and big fenders covering the MPC Eagle tires on Revell Halibrands with widened rims.

They very nearly did. But Il Commandatore insisted that he retain absolute control as if Ford did not buy the company. So they parted ways and not on the friendliest terms. Ergo the Cobra and Ford GT40...
Note Chris. And I suspect you know this, but for those who may not...The IMSA rules for the class with the huge fender flares were based on the FIA Group 5 rules. So what you have in mind is the same as what I have in mind.
