Go Like Hell, by A J Baime, is truly a great book about this situation. This was at the dawn of "globalization" and Ford wanted to compete with British, German and Italian car firms for sales in Europe. Ferrari was so dominant that Ford offered to buy the company. Enzo "played him like a fiddle."Enzo was also angling to have Fiat buy him (which they eventually did). Henry Ford II went ape s*%t and tasked Iacocca & Shelby with one goal: beat Ferrari at LeMans. The book is spot-on detailing these very different times, revealing Henry's girl friend that went all over Europe with him, and NOBODY told Ms.Ford. It also details how Ken Miles got screwed out of the triple but never complained because "they've been so good to me." Shelby regretted it deeply... A great book... Tim

Thanks Dusty, I always knew the shortcomings of that build, but it was before I had the detailed reference pics I have now. I used white art tape, but obviously white decal would be more accurate for thickness. I was just reviewing MRRN #22-25 on "The GT Chronicles" with Mike's renderings of all the early Cobra and Vette racers. Such a treasure trove of information! Having seen Patrick's Daytona Coupe build at the SoCal NNL and an old ad for the Lindberg kit, I had just pulled mine out to review. I seem to remember MRRN mentioned that the Lindberg body replicated one particular version, but I haven't found that reference. Anyone know? (I guess we should do a separate thread on Daytona Coupes) I have the Sunny kit which is really a 289 and not a 427, but the body is closer to the later race cars. The earliest AMT kits are the best, but I haven't seen Round2's recent reissue. (wonder what they put back... if anything) I also have the Fujimi 427 (above) which has its own faults (windshield frame) plus every variation of the Monogram 427 including the drag car with the roof which isn't really accurate either. I have one of the 1/24 Revell slot bodies and a resin 289 FIA kit that came out of the Midwest some years back. (can't remember the co.) With Targa Florio decals from a number of sources including DMC and white metal details from Curbside Dioramics (or Herb Deeks). So many Cobras... so little time. P.S. Funny you should mention the Cougar II as it was the only other kit I bought at the NNL. Dusty Testors version for 2 bucks. Cheers

I seem to recall that Mike said the Lindberg body was a close early Daytona Coupe. Not a bad body. If you need Ford France decals for their Daytona entry at Le Mans let me know.

The Lindberg coupe replicates CSX2287. Chassis CSX2287 is the made in the USA prototype coupe dubbed the "Daytona". Subsequent Daytona bodies were made in Italy and are better represented by the Gunze Sanyo kit. Hosted on Fotki

Won a pair of the Lindberg kits on evilbay last fall. A resin caster friend od mine in England got one of them to cast up. Quite a nice body over all.
