Just an out of the box Tamiya. I'm going to give the decals a try (never have much luck with them) - if I ever get them
(please excuse the photography)

Paul, looking good. Which color yellow is that? On decaling just that your time and use a setting solution to lay the decals down. Youll do fine. We have faith. Bring on the next up date.

CC ๐ Tamiya makes a rattle can and bottle paint shade called "Camel Yellow" just for this purpose. I also found that 5 drops of lemon yellow and one drop of orange will give you roughly the same shade. Built this kit once and have it in the pile but may send to son who is an huge Ayrton Senna fan!

Do you have the correct Camel decals? If not, I can source those for you as I believe Michael at indycals.net has them.

CC ๐ Yeah, it's an odd colour of yellow. The model is moulded in yellow, that helped. I put one coat of Tamiya TS56 orange on, it's quite a transparent paint so the yellow still showed through. I knew from painting the Renault that the Tamiya TS16 yellow doesn't cover worth talking about so I put one light coat of it over the "orange". I think I got it pretty close. I haven't clear coated - still waiting for the decals. This is the real car that I used for referance:

Wish me luck.

Paul, if you have not used Indycals decals you have to cut them close to the image. He has instructions on his web site. Good luck.

The obvious next question, since you guys have experience with Indycals decals. Do you clearcoat the sheet before applying the decals, and does that not reduce their flexibility? Also, what do you recommend as the final clearcoat? Obviously I don't want to dissolve the decals, lol. I have Tamiya TS13 and TS65, and Testors High Gloss on the shelf, but this is new to me?
Thx

Paul, look on Indycals web site. There is doโs and dontโs listed. TS13 and model master lacquer clears are ok. Use setting solution โSolvasetโ to snug them down. Let them dry a day, lightly damp a cloth and light wipe to cleanup any residue from setting solution. I will dust coat the first past on clear. Let it dry. Add a little heavier coat, dry time and then a final wet coat. I will look close after the first dusting to see if there is any lifting of decals or color issues. If you have a old body and decals you can sacrifice, do a practice run before you do this car. Hope this helps you. There are a lot of ways to do this and this works for me. Good luck

My version of the Lotus 99T. I should explain, I really hate when they put so much advertising on a formula car, it just ruins the lines of the cars. I mean, if I wanted a rolling billboard I'd watch Nascar (which I usually don't). So I'm trying to make my cars the way they "should" have looked - a little artistic license, lol. I don't mind sponsorship, just keep it in good taste. So it's still a "Camel" Lotus.
"photo will be inserted here when forum upload issues are resolved"
oops, I'll try later
