The name is Mike. I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada. I've been building off and on since I was about 8 years old (50 years...geez) I took what seems like a fairly common route. Build as a kid, put it away during the teen hormone years, graduate, marry, reproduce and then start building again. Been divorced for about 11 years now...single, quit smoking, quit drinking so gotta spend money on something. Guess that explains why I just sank $900.00 into a 1/12 Ferrari and a ton of aftermarket goodies to go with it! I've been a race fan since the 70's...NASCAR, F1 (being Canadian, I was particularly upset when Villeneuve died ), Indycar, NHRA...basically anything with 2 or 4 wheels that moves really fast! I still follow racing but miss the old days terribly. The 80's and 90's were what racing was, IMHO. Feel free to say hi and I'll be posting some stuff eventually.....

Welcome Mike. Your story is very similar to mine and many other's here I would suspect. You'll fit in just fine.

Guess that explains why I just sank $900.00 into a 1/12 Ferrari and a ton of aftermarket goodies to go with it! I have to ask. Which kit? First off, thanks for the welcome, folks. Glad to be here! 2whl ..it's the Tamiya 641/2. Found it on ebay for about $200.00CDN, most were listed at $300.00 or more, so I grabbed it. The box was kinda faded (no big deal) and it looks as though it may have gotten wet at one time. The decals are shot (got a replacement set already) but all the parts were still sealed in their plastic bags. I ordered everything Paul had for this kit at ThundervalleyF1, which ran about $500.00CDN and along with paint, primer, casting material (need to make tires...I'll post some pics and explanation in a bit) and some other odds and ends, I'm almost to the $1000.00 mark. I've never spent, nor did I ever think I would spend, that much on one kit but, for years I've won many 1st, 2nd and 3rd's at our local show but never got that elusive "best in show". This is my shot.

As most already know here, I have an inordinate number of 1/12th F1 kits in my pile... 17 to be exact... and the Ferrari 641/2 is one of my proudest builds. But it has a problem. The decals are turning yellow. I built the kit some 20 years ago and since the paint job is as close as I have ever come to flawless, I will leave it alone. Hope to photos of your build. It is a great scale and a great subject! Welcome, welcome...

It's a monster! I've gone nuts with the aftermarket stuff (bought everything available for the 641/2 from ThundervalleyF1) and plan to make it my last kick at the can for a "Best in Show" at our local contest. It's in April so I have 8 months to do it up.

Miket, Welcome to our little nitch in the Net, you're going to really like it here. All the guys are great, super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and will help with anything they can.
I've never spent anywhere near that for a kit plus, and if I did, you'd be reading my obituary posted here without a doubt. One thing for sure, it's going to be one heck of a build, so please post a really detailed build blog with a ton of pictures for us to follow.
Gotta disagree with you about the golden era of racing, just include those glorious 1960s, and we're good to go.

Thanks, Joel!
I'm thinking this build is gonna be a blast. Actually, I'm sort of intimidated by all these parts and pieces because I've never tackled anything like this before but, as a wise man once said, it's like eating an elephant...just do it one bite at a time.
And I won't disagree with your statement about the 60's...any time two or more people are trying to reach the finish line first, it's all good!

Mike_t, When are you planning on starting the build? I sure hope it's sooner then later.
As for the 1960s, 1967 was my glory year for F1. I finally made it to Watkins Glen, and saw the race in a constant drizzle. OMG!! all my heroes were there. Gurney, Clark, McLaren, Hill, etc. And those cars. I've never forgot that day, and never will.

I was at Watkins in 64 and 66, Mosport in 67,69,77, St Jovite in 68. Then later Detroit in 85. Never made it to Montreal. Plus the sports cars of course. It was a lot better then than now.

Arcticwolf,
Back in the good old days there was only one track, now there's been remodels, long & short courses, and I'm assuming a few others for local race classes. Loved Mosport as I raced Enduro karts there. Scared myself silly on the 1st flying lap down the straight.
I'll be the 1st one to confess that way back in 1996 I got into sim racing. 1st off line, then online. And in 1998 when Papyrus came out with the Grand Daddy of them all: GPL, I was hooked. Just loved the sim, the online communities, the mods, and the online leagues. Since it was the 1967 season, Watkins Glen was right there. And that was my favorite track from that season by far. Too bad I never did much better there then the other tracks in the original sim. Eventually, I lost interest and sold my setup. Now, I'm really thinking about getting back in. At 70 I'll be the oldest driver for sure.
