I am not sure who the builder was on the Lotus 1/12 model in the photo, but it instantly reminded me of the song " I like Big Butts" the photo says a lot and the builder did a great job. I will be on the look out for something special for December ..Chris

Is the camber on the rear wheels prototypical or are we looking at focal distortion from a wide angle lens?

You can see by the wear on the inside of the rear tires they did run a little camber.

Is the camber on the rear wheels prototypical or are we looking at focal distortion from a wide angle lens? No, I think it's just crooked tires! Models that heavy sometimes need a little support underneath. Tamiya used to supply little round supports to put under their 1/12 models. If it was focal distortion, the wing end plates would flare out, too. Lots of detail on that model, but the excessive camber definitely detracts. Brian

Nicely detailed Lotus for sure. But I've got to agree with Brian about the chamber being off, and it does really hurt the overall image. To me, this photo should be of a perfectly built, painted, and decaled model. Any and all added detail is a bonus. But just like in IPMS contests, it's basics before anything else.
Honestly, and I don't mean to be disrespectful to the builder, but the picture does more harm then good as to the overall build.

Joel I agree totally... and I think it's odd you cannot see the front tires... I wonder about the scale.

I didnt see any info on the scale, I think it is 1/12 but could be one of those 1/8 Entex kits , the front tires shouldnt be seen as the 70's F-1 cars used HUGE Rear tires. I would have straightened out the camber a bit, I saw a build the other day where the builder uses a ratcheting slide clamp, like you use in wood working and it worked great for getting the tires squared, the wings both front and rear square, Harbor freight has those in 12 inch for about 5 bucks Great idea because it holds it straight until the glue dries. Chris, I'm a little confused about these pictures. I thought that they were the best of the best posted on our list? Since there's no other info on the build, I'm just wondering that's one of the criteria or not?
Never thought of using any of those smaller type clamps for alignment rather then just trying to eyeball it using squares and a ruler. I usually get close by never perfect. Going to pick up a few sizes at Harbor Freight as the metal ones at Home Depot would be just over kill.

I use the Banner photo in several ways, to show models built by members, to show interesting models by any builder ( usually sparks some conversation as in this months ) to show historical Racing photos of interest, etc... It draw visitors to look at all of our categories, gives us something to talk about and overall shows we are Race Car Oriented Model car Site. When I decided to change it monthly I had stated it would be interest stirring photos.. . Chris

Chris,
For me, the Can Am and McLaren are one in the same from the start to the end of the Golden years. How about a M8B with Bruce behind the wheel?
