Looking great so far. Nice job on the engine detail. I always scuff in my tires. I either take 200 sandpaper and do it by hand or take the dremel with the little sanding drum on low speed and just keep going around the tire until it looks right. I don't worry if I get a little "flat spot", it just looks more authentic! With or without the drill trick, its easier to handle if you mount the tires on the rims first. Won't the dust just wash off? Nope... it looks like dust but it is discoloration.

Have you tried sanding it out? Maybe painting them with flat acrylics?

Just an off the wall suggestion, but tire paint? The kind you buy in the auto parts store to dress up the tires on your car?

Have you tried Armor-All?

Great suggestions for the tires! I would never have thought of Armor-All! I was just going to use matt black! But armor-all wipes or spray might work. Since it will only be 46 for a high tomorrow, painting is kind of out unless I burnt some kW hours heating up the workshop! Plus tomorrow is "vote by mail ballot" day! I will let you all know what works on the tires.
"Did tires in that day have white lettering?" he ponders. I guess I will have to go look that up!
Thanks all!

Armor-All worked like a champ... and I got the wheels painted gold using Tamiya rattle cans.
Now to the next problem... the tires won't seat properly on the wheel rims. When I put the rim in place, there is about 1/8" of the rim showing all the way around... if it were a real tire, I would say it wasn't "seated" properly.
I will try to get a photo of this issued tonight so I can ask for solutions!

Semi-soft foam strips inside the tire, I've run into this problem before!

Semi-soft foam strips inside the tire, I've run into this problem before! Brian Not sure I understand... does this push the sidewalls out? Does the foam need to be the width and depth of the wheel? I'm beginning to think it makes some kind of sense? If this were a real tire, I'd say it wasn't seated on the bead! I will see what I have in my box of foam stuff but if I understand your drift, you are talk the kind of foam that goes in a seat cushion or a mattress pad only on a very small scale... the dense stuff, right?

Velocity stack covers arrived yesterday from Spot Models (Scalefreak) in Spain! Great service! Now if only the seatbelts from Gemini in Italy would get here! Addendum: Talked with Gemini today via Messenger and problem is I ordered regular delivery which can take forever... so I reordered seat belt kit plus tire stencils. Mike T, didn't you use them? The ones I bought are PE half circles (find them here www.geminimodelcars.com/listing/608548551/high-quality-112-scale-photoetched) how did you apply them? I've seen some that have a plastic holder that goes over the rest of the tire and the tread. Where did you get those?

Yes, dense but soft enough to get a strip into the tire in one piece. Width is critical, it should be wide enough to push out the sidewalls of the tire.

And I'm glad SpotModel relieved your fears! I've never had an issue with them and would recommend them any time!

(sorry, couldn't resist)

(sorry, couldn't resist) I did but the bead still wouldn't seat. Talk about finding that little time valve stem...
