Since I have the parts (I think), its kind of a test run. I want to build a 1- 12th F5000 car, but I haven't figured out how yet. So I have an old junk M23 in 1/20th, and I have an AMX kit in 1/20th, and McLaren did make an M25 (OK, they only made 1), and Penske ran AMC motors in the '73 L7M series, sooo.......
A McLaren-AMC would have been a viable car in '73. I'm not building a replica of anything, I'm building what I would have built if I'd had a lot more money back in '73. Basically from scrap.
The donor kit, and the AMC motor bits:

Thanks for the interest Chris. I got distracted building the Vette so I haven't got far on this. I patched the floor and re-enforced the bulkhead. Those pins I installed line up with 2 holes in the timing cover of the motor, they're for alignment more than strength. Still lots of prep to do. As for parts, I have no idea what I need yet, but thanks!
ps: Hope you are feeling better

Paul, Just ran across your "one of a kind" McLaren/AMC F5000 build. Any updates since Jan?

Paul, Just ran across your "one of a kind" McLaren/AMC F5000 build. Any updates since Jan? Joel I painted it orange. So far that's about it. My inclination is that if I'm going to get ambitious, I might as well go for broke and do it in 1/12th.

Paul, Now that's one build project that will be one for the books. Joel Patrick was kind enough to donate 2 somewhat used but highly usable Lotus 72 1/12th kits. They're close enough to either a Lotus 70 or Chinook MK12 that it's a feasible conversion. I've never seen a 1/12th F5000 car, so I'll give it a shot. So far I'm just doing some engineering and collecting parts. It'll take a while. But I might play with the McLaren in the meantime.

That means you have two complete Cosworth Ford DFVs correct? That should save you some time as you also have the transmissions. You are putting those two kits to use which is better than I did with the swap!
