Since we are the final stages of the 312 B (I have one area to repaint on the main body since some kind of strand is there, maybe it will buff out), I am moving on.
I know Chris Smith is blowing us away with his 312T but I can't afford all the after market stuff he has invested in... I did spring for the 3D cast brake ducts/scoops. But I can't afford a $200 PE kit from Scale Motors and the cheapest PE sheets from the kit are around $50 on EvilBay. I don't know if I even want to go that high for those. I probably will after payday Friday but we will see...
Chris is a great modeler and I am glad I snared him from a group over on FaceBook called "Mediocre Modelers". It is run by a hobby shop owner in the Phoenix area named Andy. Look him up if you are ever over there.
So I have the decals from Michael at IndyCals and I opened up the instructions and guess what? NO ENGINE at this first step. That's new! But one thing I did note is the incredible design changes from the 312B of 1970 to the 312T in 1975. It really started with the 312 B3 of 1973 which really widened out the car and was the first with the snowplow front wing. That car was modified in 1974 and still had the "boxer" V-12 hence the B designation. Along comes 1975 with the transversal gearbox (using a V-12 instead of a flat 12) hence the "T" designation. The high airboxes were first used in 1974 but disappeared for the 1976 season making those two years a really unique looking year in F1 designs (I get off on all these details).
So today, I put together the front tub and I know Chris did his in the PE and this brings me to my first question:
Would airbrushed Molotow "Chrome" be too shiny? The kit instructions call for "silver" but it seems PE would also be very shiny like chrome. I could dull down the Molotow chrome afterwards, I guess (I have been itching to try airbrushing the chrome and sprung for the 30 ml container. Apparently, you spray at around 25 psi undiluted and clean up with laquer thinner afterwards).
What are ya'll's thoughts on the Molotow with a dulldote? Too much? Alternatives?
Your comments are always welcome!

The PE set from scale motor sports is made from stainless steel, Alclads version isn’t that good in my opinion.

I'm not real big on AlClad because of the prep work and the gloss black base. Will give Molotow a try on a piece of primed plastic.

Patrick, I have a 312T build which stalled out years ago. I painted the chassis with Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf. You could also try AS-12 Bare Metal Silver

Since we are over here (and not on a site sponsored by a certain hobby store... and the owner is a really nice guy. He just doesn't stock enough paints), I can tell you that the turnaround from the Burbank House of Hobbies is incredible. I ordered yesterday morning and got a notice yesterday afternoon that the package had been picked up by UPS.
HobbyLinc would take up to two weeks for just a paint order and while I had loyalty points built up there, HofH will be my go to now! The only thing they didn't have was the Silver Leaf (I may have some already...) but they had some new Tamiya rattle can stuff I'd never seen... their clears are now in a rattle can... blue, orange, smoke, and red which should make doing details on things like exhaust pipes a little easier as you don't have to clean up between colors in your airbrush.
I also discovered that Evergreen now makes translucent color sheets which makes my wife interested as she does windows in little wooden cabins!
I ordered bright gun metal and bare metal silver for the tub. I hope I have some silver leaf. And I do have the Molotow chrome. I think I will have some choices for the tub of this T. 2wl recommended the AS-12 Bare Metal Silver. I'm sure it will work out great!

AS 12 is my go-to for replicating bare steel - chassis, engines etc. TS 42 works for a dirtier raw steel look, tube frames, etc. For aluminum I use TS 30 or sometimes TS17, with or without a TS79 clear coat. All straight out of a rattle can, I don't airbrush. And of course I go through 3-4 cans a year of PS 31 smoke just to dirty things up a bit.

Got the paint from House of Hobbies yesterday, so I will be going with that AS 12. Anyone here do business with UpScale Hobbies out of Indiana. Chris from there said Molotow chrome with a matte finish clear gives a pretty good impersonation of an aluminum or bare steel. Might have to try that sometime... So I think I will try to get this little project underway. I just watched "Rush" (again) and really want to get to the T2 but all things in order so I can understand the changes that went on. Interesting that the 1976 year started with the 312T with the high airbox but midseason, the T2 was on track.

Patrick, I've done business with Chris. Great guy and very helpful I had a nice chat with him! I just wish I thought I could ever afford to pull the trigger on an MFH Dino 156 Ver. C from 1961. A little more than intimidating and working with all those unknowns like resins with metal etc... it would be a pity to screw up an $800 kit!

If so, I love his YT channel. That guy can build anything and make it look great. I recently bought a bunch of paint and supplies from www.scalehobbyist.com/ and I have yet to find anyone that can beat their prices. I bought a little over $200 and the total shipping to me in Florida was 9 or 10 dollars. It shipped in two or three days and was here in less than a week. They have a large selection of supplies too. Got the two kits for $18 and $19 and since I am new to the hobby and can't find new sprint or pro stock cars I grabbed two. I need the practice anyway and building two of the same model might make me build it better the second time. If someone can beat scalehobbyist prices please let me know. They also packed the items very well.. best packing I've seen.

I, too, discovered Scalehobbyist and placed an order which is enroute for delivery tomorrow. Besides exceptional pricing their search engine for their store is second to none in my experience. It made searching and cross referencing a breeze. They appear to carry just about every major and minor line of hobby supplies I could have wanted. I haven;t checked out their kit prices. For the moment I'm well-stocked in that department but your purchases kit-wise have piqued my interest.

Bernard, I never NEED to purchase another kit. In fact, anyone attending my "celebration of life" will be getting a free kit of their choice. And there will still be left-overs. I use Burbank "House of Hobbies" for my mailorder. I used to use HobbyLinc but they take FOREVER! I'm anxious to start this 312T. It will look very nice with... Your comments are always welcome.
