Since someone brought NASCAR to the forum , I just had to try. Besides, I wanted to do more Ron Fellows cars anyway and I found some oddball decals for his 2006 Watkins car, so hey why not. I've never built a stock car before, and this is an actual Revell kit, not a resin body. I'm building it straight out of the box, as I want to see how it is and if I can use it as a base for other projects down the line. So for that reason the body won't be glued on for a while so I can use the chassis for reference. The motor was a nice surprise, it's quite well detailed for 1/24th compared to a lot of kits. All box parts:
I'm already thinking, swap in a 4 Weber setup, flip the exhausts upside down and I've got an F5000 engine for my McLaren M10 conversion build. Might try that.

The frame is a plus and minus. What will be seen is well designed, but they forgot the rest. If I were to graft the back end of a Trans Am chassis on, it would be an improvement. So these cars are designed to have the body on permanently. I absolutely hate the three big sockets the three big pegs on the body fit into. OK, there's no way this will be one of my "take the shell off and look inside" displays. So any extra perks I might do later will be limited to the interior. I'll give them credit, it certainly fits better than the old Trans Am kits did. So, the chassis:
I'm waiting for an AMT Chevy SS kit, I'm curious how the body shell would fit over this Revell frame - I don't have much confidence the AMT kit will be too detailed or accurate, so I may have to do some gene splicing. But thats another project.

I was having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to clamp this piece when my Granddaughter handed me her hair clip:
Next stop is to buy more hair clips.

Body shell is painted white, and the decals are on. These decals are "mpr", purchased from Mike's decals. Never seen them before. They are laser printed, you have to cut out the decals from the sheet. Very nice to work with, takes a bit more setting solutions and longer time to react than Indycals, but they work perfectly. I really like them. They are not glossy but I think once clear coated they should pop nicely. These are pics ready for a clear coat:
Another thing I've never encountered, this kit has the black trim on all the windows already done. What a neat idea!
Next step back in the psint shop.

Odd seeing this car with no rear quarter panel or deck lid sponsors.
Great looking build. The white looks great and the graphics very crisp! I like it!

The car really has no sponsorship at all, other than the standard series sponsor decals everybody is forced to use. Kevin Harvick entered it as a one-off for Fellows to drive, the thing on the hood is just the "Happy Harvick" logo. It's not one of his Glen winners but it is kinda unique.

Looks like they got a few bucks out of the Outdoor Channel... and I had no idea that was Harvick gift to Fellows! I miss Kevin racing in Xfinity or whatever it is called now... but I know he had to scale back. I think he took a beating on Rhonda Rousey and his sports management team.

Ya when I saw the black outline on my Donor kit for the Mustang I was excited ... but then I realized i wanted them flat black so i had to go through the process anyway lol .. and I must say it is the least exciting thing involved in building one of these is the creation of those lines when they are not present ... Arrrgh. You have a nice clean build going here mate congrats I'm following ... maybe you will pull me out of my funk!

Done, for the moment. I didn't glue the body on, as this is my test mule for some ideas down the road. I can always go back later and add some missing detail and the plumbing and wiring, but for now it looks OK. Nice kit overall, no problems, sometimes its good to just do something easy for a change. Finished product, apologies for the crappy photography:
