It's not really authentic, the kit doesn't match to the exact car the decals are for. Air intakes would have been different, etc. The oil tank was wrong so I sectioned it and glued it back together. It's more of a "typical Watson" with "Roger Ward livery", but I'm happy with it, some models you just develop a little affection for. A very hard kit to get right, maybe I'll get more creative with the next one.
I don't mind the plastic tires, a little sanding and some rubber black spray worked. I drilled out the exhaust pipe tip and "smoked" it, I really hate a solid rod where there is supposed to be a hollow tube. Seat belts will have to wait.
Thanks for tuning in guys, and the support!
cheers
Paul

Thank you guys, very kind of you. I might build a couple more. I'd like a Foyt car, not that I liked the guy but he was a hell of a driver. And maybe just build a frame and really try to detail it. Sometime down the road.

Paul, Like you, AJ wasn't one of my favorite drivers, but like Gurney and Andretti, he drove everything with four wheels, and many times was 1st over the finish line.

Great job, Paul! I can really appreciate your achievement because I have been working on and (mostly) off for a long time on this kit, using the Classic Racing Resins upgrade set to make it look more like Parnelli Jones's 1963 Indy 500 winner (more accurately shaped nose). And you've shown me this kit can be finished! If you decide to build another, or your build inspires someone else to try this kit, you should check out the resin conversion sets that Classic Racing Resins ( hobbitime.myshopify.com/) offers. Besides the 1963 winner, Calvin also has a set to convert it to Parnelli's 1962 version of "Ol' Calhoun", and he previously also had one to do the '64 version (all three years were the same car/chassis with different nose configurations). He also has a set to convert the kit into AJ Foyt's 1964 winner, a separate set of accurate tires for AJ's winner, and a "generic" Watson conversion with more correct nose, hood, oil tank, and vacform windscreen. Indycals sells the correct resin tires for the 1963 winner. Terrific build, thanks for sharing it with us. Cameron

I love the old roadsters, and met Rodger Ward a few times, so I love this one. Great job on it!

Hi Paul You did a very nice job on an old hard to fit kit. This kit was released by AMT in 1963 or 64 as the 63 Parnelli Jones winner. The cars owner J.C. Agajanian added the nose scoop in 63. Because of the nose scoop and the type of oil tank. AMT or Ertl never released it as anything other car. There were at least 2 cars that more or less copied the scoop. as far as I know the oil tank was unique. The most prominent of them would be A.J. Foyt's 64 winner. I don't know if any one else used the nose fairings in front of the shocks. From year to year the builder A.J. Watson made changes in his cars. The bodies are different and there are some changes to the frame. He built about 27 of them and there were several builders that copied them. As Flashman said Calvin has several conversions for this kit. There is a generic %9/60 set with a hood ,nose, oil tank and wind screen. I have a second kit like this with tires it may be an earlier or 61 conversion. There is a 62 version with nose ,hood ,tires wind screen and short exhaust pipe. These first 3 conversions all have a smooth nose. The 64 conversion consists of a Snorkel nose instead of a recessed scoop ,windscreen, tires and a frame part. Lance Sellers made a correction for the 63 version with a corrected rear body, corrected nose, corrected tires and corrected oil tank. Atr Laski from the previous post has seat belt kits on his web site. More later. Again very nice job Offset Ralph

I am old enough to remember seeing roadsters at races especially local races.
Great looking build, Paul, and stop apologizing. I would never have known if you hadn't said something.

Wow, thanks for the feedback guys! You've got me motivated to build another one.
It's odd, but with all my 1/12th builds, that little Watson is probably my favorite.
