Art, As i have admitted in other open wheel builds, I am NOT real familiar with that style of building, I've done the obligatory Rick Mears Pennzoil car, Arie Luyendaks Provimi Veal car, and I did a very early (decals and instructions wise PC18) of Emmo. Long ago on this one this is the printer that made up my, and I have to say this, beautiful decals for my #5 Olivetti Olds GTS car. (with not a whole heck of a lot to go on) and an FI Benneton of Allesandro Nanni. I have seen your builds, I know what you are about this will be a fun one to watch as was the Mach 1. Looking forward to this Thanks, Bill. Shoot, you've finished as many open wheel builds as I have! But I do consider it a genre of mine, so I do own that I love to build open wheel cars. Makes it hard to not put in the detail...

Thank you Shayne. Here it is, sans clear coat... The decals provided the flo red parts, but they were off register so I wasn't interested in using them. I later found that they crack easy, so it would have just been frustrating! I had some Gravity paint, which I had never used before and was eager to try, that I obtained for a McLaren build that didn't get started yet. It turned out to be a perfect match for the flo red decals that will be used, like the front number. I scanned the decals so I could use them as a template. No clear yet.

Art, how did you like the Gravity paint? And where did you get it from? USA or Spain?

Nice! Looking really good. I have used Gravity paints. They are nice. However I don't like the 2K clear. Tried it 3 times without success.
Thanks,

Hello,
The first time I used it, it did not come out smooth. I was expecting a smooth finish but it was not. I thought it was user error, but I did follow all instructions and tutorials. Spent more time sanding and polishing than if I had used single stage clear. But I thought it was just me. The second time I used it, it came a bit smoother but not by much. However, it reacted ever so slightly with the decals. You could see something like orange peel only on top of the decals. Sanding and polishing over a decal is nerve racking. Then I tried a third time. This time, again it did not come out very smooth. When I polished it I rubbed thru a fender ridge. Not uncommon. So I applied an additional light coat of color so I could clear over again. A common repair. But the clear and the paint reacted and it blistered and cracked. So it seems it doesn't like to be covered. Anyways, 3 strikes and I'm out. I still think either user error or there was something wrong with the reducer or the clear itself as I've seen great results with it. I'm going back to single stage clear for as long as I can source it.
Thanks, Ismael

Ki used the clear on my a Corvette and found it great. This was about two years ago and I have some left, however I’m cautious on using it again now that it’s this old..

Thanks, guys, for the comments on the clear. Here's a shot of the completed wheels. There's a little silvering on the logo in this shot, but I fixed that after I saw this shot. I got the seat completed. Added a new detailed shift linkage and a Scale Motorsport seat belt kit. The Sabelt logos I added. This was one of the most detailed cam locks I've seen. I really like this latch. Available at ScaleProShop.com .

Thank you, guys! I was able to get the Gravity clear on, but not before ruining some of the decals. I found some issues with the bottom edge I apparently introduced with a dehydrator earlier in the painting process that I hadn't noticed, so while correcting them and handling the body, I wiped out some markings, including the smoking cowboy logos on the side pods. I was able to make most of the replacements myself, but the Smoking Cowboys were just not printing true black from my inkjet. Thankfully, my buddy Calvin at Hobbitime hobbitime.myshopify.com/ has some and saved the day. The clear came out show quality, but a bit too shiny for a race car, so I wet sanded it and polished it out. It still is shiny, but not overly so. I used some gold BMF on the "firewall". It may not be perfectly accurate for this car, but some references on some other cars had gold, so I thought it would be a good look. It turns out, you can't really see it much anyway. images43.fotki.com/v1218/photos/9/1464279/16203792/PhotoFeb24114530PM-vi.jpg
