I started this build maybe 6 years ago and then I moved, so it was carefully boxed up in a wood cigar box and packed away. I prominently placed it next to my desk in the project's section and now IT's BACK !! I understand there is some confusion as to the origin of the car and the model, so... the Brabham BT-15 is a purpose built Formula Three car, built between 1965 & 1966, Raced mostly down under and in Europe, you will see them in the assorted Vintage Racing classes today , they made some where between 28 and 58, no actual count was kept. It is usually raced with a Ford Cosworth pre - BDA type 4 cylinder engine. The Model was Designed by my Life Long Friend Phillipe De Lespinay about 1966, for the Heller company in France, along with many race car kits of that era. I have seen the drawings and it a very accurate replica. After a few years of Heller production the molds were then acquired by AMT who issued it in a Double kit along with a Matra F-II kit, Then the molds were purchased by Union.
Here are the 3 different boxes and also below is the Matra Drawing..
In my many talks with Phillipe he was a bit disappointed with Heller because although the results are spectacular he had hoped for a complete line of F-III and F-III kits so that a modeler would have a tremendous display of these European Race cars. His Porsche 917, Ferrari 512S , Porsche 906,907 & 908 , Lotus 49, Brabham BT-33, and McLaren M7A kit are equally spectacular, collectable and pay a huge Homage to Mr. De Lespinay. He recently restore Gurney 74 Eagle and presented it to Dan a few years before he passed as a birthday present. He is a man of many talents and I am glad to have him as a 50+ year friend.
On to the W.I.P. right now I am going to show it rather than describe it!
the bare frame and front suspension.
frame and engine in place but not done with the engine, lots of detail to be added. Painted body, love this color on this car !!!
where I am at today! and away I go on another project completion !! I hope I have offered some answers to some questions about the real car and the model Please, if you have questions ask I would be happy to answer.. cHRIS
