Finally finished my Monogram '85 SVO practice build so I am ready to start my first WIP here. I picked this one because I am only going to build Tamiya kits until I get some good experience and this one in particular because I have all the paint Tamiya calls for on their instruction sheet. I'm going to build it straight out of the box, no extras.. not until I know what I am doing. Hopefully Tamiya's fit and following their directions will save me some frustration.

You sure picked a good brand of kit manufacturer to start with Chris. I dunno why but I guess I like getting kicked in the a$$ all the time building these old Revell and Jo-Han kits that I've got strewn about my stash. And then when I do start them I've got these high hopes that make me think that one of those old kits won't give me any trouble. It's like getting a running start before I hit a brick wall.

JCF, I think you will like this kit. I built the 99 version and it went together super well. I gotta agree with Mustang here, A Tamiya kit will spoil you when you go back and pick up an AMT or Revell kit. The quality, fit and finish just aint there on those. Build on and I will be watching.

Yeah, the plastic itself on their kits is almost beautiful enough that it doesn't need paint. I love their chrome pieces and I'm debating whether I will paint the gold kit plastic wheels because they look so good. I've build one other Tamiya kit and it was like the parts didn't even need glue in many places... they kinda snapped together.

I used to build only Tamiya kits. And some Fujimi. I'd throw away the other stuff. But then Joel, with some help from Chris and JC, got me into building these older kits and now I have more fun trying to take a MPN or AMT or even an IMC and making a finished product equal or better than a Tamiya, in fit and finish and quality. Or as close to it as realistically possible. That's the challenge. I put as much or more work into building a Revell Trans Am car as I do in building a 1/12th Tamiya F1. Maybe more! Then again, I am mental.

One of these days I'll try the Revell/AMT stuff again.. I have lots of cool Revell/Monogram kits. One of my very first builds was a Revell Trans Am car about 30 years ago. As I mentioned in my Introduction I built three cars in about a week or two. Didn't know what I was doing but just followed the directions and had a blast. I was impressed by the way they looked but I lost them many, many years ago so I don't even remember what they looked like. I have a Revell Trans Am car in my collection of kits to be built now and would love to get more. I'm just building the Tamiya kits until I get better. Are Fujimi kits nice? I have one.

Fujimi F1 1/20th kits are great. I built the Ferrari 126 CK and C2 kits, and the Brabham fan car. On a par with Ebbro for sure. I don't know about their 1/24th stuff, never tried it.

Oh yeah, the fan car is nice. Some of the Fujimi 1/24 kits are kinda hit and miss. If you can find a review on one first it is helpful. Hasegawa makes some pretty cool 1/24 rally subjects.

Fujimi might be my favorite kit manufacturer.

Fujimi might be my favorite kit manufacturer. Why is that JC?

Fujimi might be my favorite kit manufacturer. Why is that JC? They offer great kits (maybe not quite on Tamiya's level) of subject matter that appeals to me.

I built the Tamiya Brabham BT46 and the Fujimi BT46B, same car but with the fan, and I found the Fujimi far more accurate and better fit quality. Both 1/20th scale. Just my opinion.

Ok, today I got the small and few mold lines sanded off. This body was damaged in shipping.. looked like the package got stepped on so I had to glue the right side A and B pillars with Tamiya extra thin cement. I hope no one will notice when I am done and I hope there is no more damaged parts. I'll be decanting the paint and primer and spraying with my Paasche H this time. I made sure I had all the paints for this build but forgot XF53, Neutral Grey. What do you think, half Flat Black and Half Flat White for Neutral Grey? They also didn't have a call out for painting the wheels. They look beautiful! Should I paint them?
