Chris, during a multi color painting session, I just clean out the bowl, backwash the needle & nozzle and change colors. But when I done, like you, I strip down my AB and clean it top to bottom. Only takes me about 5 min, but I just don't have any surprises next time I use either AB.
Not sure why you would have issues with your Iwata Neo when AB'ing Metallics unless you aren't thinning them enough. I can shoot anything through my .3mm setup.

Joel I'll have to see if I can backwash this Paasche H but the needle sticks out past the cap so I never attempted it. With that Neo there was actually a large piece of Tamiya Chrome Silver flake stuck in it. I had to use my pointed cleaner needle to push it out. Maybe it was a freak large piece. I can tell you the next time I do multiple colors I'll probably use it though because it is so much easier and cleaner to quick clean and change colors.

Chris, When you closed down the needle it should stick out past the cone tip. If it doesn't then there's paint residue either or on the needle or inside the cone. Just don't force it or you'll enlarge the cone/nozzle's opening.
I cleaned my Paasche H literally 1,000s of times. You need to remove both the needle and cone, and at this point soak them in LC for some time before a complete cleaning. An external AB is much easier to clean then a internal mix AB, but neither is very hard.
As far as the large piece of flake, I've never AB'd Metallics so I can't comment one way or the other. But never force anything through the cone/nozzle. Use tweezers if you can grab it from the back, or soak in LC for as long as it takes.

I missed the last few updates on this build but have to say that the end result thus far is nothing short of outstanding. Looking forward to more great work on this one.

Looks great. You should be proud of it. That turned out really good! Great job! Thanks guys! I was really impressed with the amount of shine Tamiya clear gives. That is what my other builds were missing.

Chris, You should be very proud of your build, as it really turned out quite well.
I'm not surprised that Plaza sold out @ $19/kit. That's super cheap for any Tamiya kit.

Joel Thanks Joel, I appreciate it! I think they may have still had them if not for Covid19 keeping everyone home. I did pick up a couple motorcycle kits and some Prototypes I already had. I'm thinking about building two in a row to help my building experience. If I don't I'll build them both, in a couple of years I'll build it again and compare the two... plus they are so cheap.
