Beautiful looking Vette Chris. I remember working on those cars very well and had a friend that had a black one of these. Funny story, he always bagged on me because I had an 89 LX 5.0. HIs mother had evidently hit the lottery pretty good and got a large sum of money. With that she had bought John a brand new 2003 Vette. Now....I had added ALOT of stuff on that Mustang of mine and so when he put up the challenge to a race …..I was very happy to accept. No matter what he did he couldn't take my car and I hadn't even used the nitrous yet. lololol. He claimed it was because I had a manual transmission and that his was an automatic. It was all in good fun and the ribbing went back and forth as long as I knew him but he never challenged me again after that. That all being said, I still like the lines of these Vettes like this one of yours and have always thought that GM got it all right with these.

I thought the LS1 was a bit under powered compared to the cars that came later. I was a little disappointed in it but the car handled well and was very fast once it got going.. especially in corners. It had a massive top speed too. I know it could never beat a sport bike off the line but I floored it on the interstate with one wanting to race, already at around 90 and left him behind. I got it to 170 that day. Only time I've ever been faster was in a Nascar going around Charlotte Motor Speedway. Mine had custom headers and exhaust and was very loud. I loved that sound.. had more of an Indy car sound.

I loved that sound.. had more of an Indy car sound. I dunno bout that not enough power stuff from the LS1's. From my stand point they were a VAST and IMMEDIATE improvement over the LT1 platform. Not that the LT1's were bad but the LS engines were really in a class of their own. Just outstanding engines from the word "GO". My ol' 306 in my Stang had pretty much everything that I could do to it done so it was a 6500 rpm screamer with 4:10 gears. With my LX clocking in at 3100 lbs it was more than a match for a lot of cars coming out in 2001-2003. After 2005 pretty much everything V-8 wise started coming from the factory with 400 horse or better so the odds started getting stacked against me. I always had nitrous to fall back on but it started getting to where I needed it a lot more often than in previous years. To get back to the LS1 though, that engine than had my respects.....and then some. You had a fantastic lookin' car Chris.

Ok folks. It's been a couple of weeks since my last progress post but I'm trying not to "update" everybody to death. I've been payin' a lot of attention to pictures and trying to get it as close the those and also from what I can remember when I used to work on these. I managed to acquire a Camaro kit which had the dual outlet muffler and will be using that on this build instead of the single outlet one. The muffler is not glued into place yet so it is just there for display purposes at this point. I'll be stripping the chrome plating from the assembly, cleaning it up and modifying it so that both pipes will lay in the right place at the right angles as well as drill out the ends of the pipes to hollow them out. I used lots of different black tones by way of gloss, semi gloss, satin and flat finishes as to give the chassis some depth and more detail. The differentials always seemed to rust so I finished it up in a semi rusted state in what would be a "soon after new" look the way it would look after the car had been on the road for about a month or two. The heat shield just in front of the differential was achieved by the use of Matte Aluminum Bare Metal Foil and the fuel tank & spare tire areas were given a coat of darker gray to add contrast. I cleaned the wheels up, added the WS-6 center cap decals and coated them with a light coating of Tamiya Smoke to get rid of the toy chrome look. I also gave the tire tread areas a light sanding to give 'em that "road wear" look (uh-oh....looks like I might've missed one). Pretty happy with these. I'm really glad that I chose to lower the car some because there would've been a whole LOT of air between the tires and the top of the wheel openings. I might try to lower the front just a smidgen more to get it where I want it....

Looking good! Gorgeous differential. Agree on the stance needing just a smidgen more lowering up front.

Thanks fellas! Been busy in the 1:1 world. Teenager problems. If you've got 'em you know what I'm talking about. They can be stupid sometimes but then again....weren't we? lol I just finished the interior up this morning. The door panels were giving me a lot of trouble at first in regards to painting the two tone effect but I managed a way around it. Just remove the hard to mask area by drilling it all out around the perimeter and cutting that section out: and then just mask and paint the rest of it:

Nice! I love the magazine in the passenger seat. Ben Thanks Ben. To me it kind of gives an unbusy interior a little spunk.

Looking good! Nice route on the door panels. About teenager kids, mine are 19 and 18. Now THEY are trying to correct me but I'm a lost cause. -"Dad, why are you doing 75 when the speed limit is 65?" -"You are right, I should be doing 85!" -"NO! ARGH!!! DAD! you'll get a fine of blah blah blah blah" When I was a kid I'd play rock music at high volume and my mom would yell at me "TURN THAT DOWN!" Now, I play rock music at cranked up volume and my daughter yells at me "TURN THAT DOWN!" I'm the stupid one in this household... and proud Thanks,

Thanks Ismael. I appreciate the comments. LOL! Our son really thinks he's the "smart guy" of the group. One day he'll do just like we did and put his head in his palm and wonder just what it was he was thinking.

I've been working really hard on getting this car completed so I can get back on the Maverick. Still a ways to go with all the last minute little stuff and just making sure that it all comes together as well as possible. Body is pretty much done. Still gotta add the side mirrors and take care of some minor details but here's what the front and side views look like so far with the pieces all loosely fit together. I've been working with my camera since these shots were taken so the photos after this update will have truer depiction of the shade of red that I'm using. Now....this is where most of the corrective work needs to be done. There are some fit issues back here in regards to the apron-to-body fit along with some minor wet sanding and polishing of the tail light assy that I painted black. In any case I've always liked the look of the dark tinted tail light panel versus the stock tail lights on these cars. ust gives them an evil look back there.
