Time to finally start a new build after the Porsche 935 K3 crossed the finish line. I decided on a open wheel car for a change, and after checking my stash, settled on the semi old, 2nd release of the Tamiya 1/20 scale Camel Lotus 99t Honda. Unlike the instructions which start with the construction of the chassis, engine/transaxle, & suspension, I much prefer to start with the body shell, wings, etc. through priming, painting, decaling, and clear gloss finish. The body shell has separate inserts for the radiators. The fit is pretty good, but requires sanding, some putty work, and one side was slightly short molded. Some polishing and finish work, and those intake areas were ready for primer The front and rear wings were naturally multi piece units. Here's the front wing pre-assembled. Totally forgot to take a quick pic of the rear wing parts. The fit was excellent on both wings. Both sets of wings have Gurney Flaps which are molded, but no bolts and nuts. So I drilled holes for them as you can see in the picture above. They're be installed after painting and decaling is completed. Next up was priming the shell and wings with Mr. Finisher 1500 gray primer thinned with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner #400 @ a 2:3 ratio 24 hrs later a lite wet rub with Tamiya #3000 sponge and then it's into the paint booth. I used Gravity's GC 156 Camel Lotus Honda Yellow. Took 2 lite tack coats followed by 4 heavier coats, and two wet coats. For the 1st time I nearly ran out of paint from a full bottle. But I made it, and that's all that counts. I took a few pictures later on that night. The Yellow is a few shades more intense that up close and personal. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my new build. It's always greatly appreciated. Joel

Nice work as always Joel.
I built that kit a couple of years ago. It does go together quite well. Did you paint the mirrors and the two air intake scoops while you were at it? I didn't, and then I had to match them to the body colour afterwards, that was a fun exercise. NOT!
Cheers mate.

Paul, For once I was smart enough to actually read through the directions and noticed that both parts would need to be painted. So I did paint them. Just didn't bother to take any pictures of either. Joel

Paul, Rarely, as I find it wastes valuable building time. Rather I just like to look at the fancy pictures.
JC,
So glad to have you along for the ride. Your general modeling excellence will surely be a huge plus for me.

Great kit of a great subject. Ayrton Senna drove this very simple paint scheme... I love the Camel blue on the Lotus yellow. Built this kit many years ago, hove no idea where it is but there is another one in the pile.
Too bad they didn't do it in 1/12th scale. It would be awesome.

pnance26 Thanks so much for checking out my progress to date. I really appreciate it.
BTW, I think I saw on the Spot news letter that a new 1/12 scale kit is coming out. Just can't remember any of the details.
