Paul Now that's pretty funny.
Chris, I gotta agree with you as the 99t does turn heads where ever it is shown. To bad that the days of Tamiya producing 1/12 scale F1 cars is long over, as the demand due to price really isn't there. I would assume that the cost would easily pass $200.
Tamiya's new racing car division: Ebbro has been solely 1/20 scale up to this point, but now they're actually re-issuing the Tamiya 1/12 scale Matra MS11 from the 1968 British Grand Prix, 1st released way back in 1969 with new parts which seems to be some PE, redone rear spoiler, seatbelts, and mirror extensions. This could very well be a market test to see if there's new demand for these 1/12 kits. The suggested list is 215 Euros/$234. Spot model has it on pre-order for 178 Euros/$194. That's already out of my budget limits, as well as the realization that the kit is literally a 1st generation 1/12 scale Tamiya F1 kit.
Ismael, thanks so much my friend for your thumbs up. It's greatly appreciated.

Looking fantastic sir, you are doing an amazing job with this! Would be cool if they made this in 1/12. Think of the fun you could have with extra detail. Here. Have fun.
(no, I won't be buying one either)

Egads!!
So there is one in 1/12 scale. Just a few things are holding me back: 1- my crappy eye site and I need new glasses really bad 2- my skill level is no where close to where these multi media kits needs it to be 3- my model budget 4- my WIFE/CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

MFH also make a 1/12th Lotus 97T - Senna's Belgian winner. I'd really like it better, if I win the lottery, which I won't since I don't gamble.
Cheers mate

They want to much for that. I got my 97T for a little over $500.

Fit issues, etc. Not sure if that applies to this particular kit but I sure wouldn't want to pay a grand to find out!

They want to much for that. I got my 97T for a little over $500. I agree, but even $500 is too rich for me. I have 12 F1 1/12th kits (3 built), I haven't paid over $100.00 US for any of them, including shipping. Granted its more like $175.00 including paint, accessories, details etc, but even so, they make a very nice finished product. I can't justify $700.00 and up for a kit that's, better sure, but not by that much.
I find some of my 1/25th cars end up costing me more by the time I get them right!

Thanks Art & Paul for stopping by and checking out my work to date. It's greatly appreciated. Even $500 is way over my per model budget. But the Tamiya 1/12 scale models are cheaper. So sooner then later I will be taking the plunge.

Re: Coffee Filter Screen ? I have had a few people ask me about this, Its a Permanent Coffee Filter sold at most Grocery Stores, stainless steel very fine mesh, runs about $5. and after cutting away the frame work you will yield 2 pieces about 4 in. x 5 in. great stuff for radiators, oil coolers etc. Normally make a styrene frame for the Photoetch face and put the mesh behind it. Never seen a Cooler you could see through..it also makes a great face panel if you choose. I just thought everyone would like a bit of clarification on that one.. Chris

Hi Joel! Sorry I haven't been on here for about a week or so - lot's of stuff going on as I'm being brought back to work.
This is looking fantastic my friend! I love the weathering on the grills and the finish on the front wing is solid!
Are you going to scrub the tires or leave them as stickers?
Looking forward the final product

Chris, Thanks for the clarification as you can see I already got it screwed up. From the pictures I have what I've actually made were screens to keep anything that the tires kick up at the radiator intakes from getting to both radiators. Seems that the Lotus guys varied where those screens actually were. I even have one picture where you can see them close to the intakes, not like the pictures I posted.

Adrian, Glad to hear that you're going back to work, as that's one step closer to normalcy. Actually, staying home has been my normal since I retired.
Thinking of leaving the tires close to what you see as the two part mold to make them had a pretty bad alignment. But I will weather the Goodyear Eagles a tad and dull up the side walls.

Time to revisit the wheels and tires that I started earlier in the build. While I usually never leave raw plastic visible in a build, the wheels are a perfect gloss Black, and I'd be lucky to prime, paint, and get that good and consistent finish, so that's what I did. Ok, call me lazy, but this time it worked out just fine. As I posted earlier, the tire tread was sanded down the best I could get it to remove the centerline seam, but the mold halves weren't aligned correctly, so there's still that small uneven lip. I mounted the tires on to the wheels, then hand glossed them with Pledge. If I ever remember to order Mig Ammo acrylic gloss and Matt clear, then the Pledge goes back into storage. Although the Pledge does self level quite well, and it's very glossy over the rubber tires. Tamiya doesn't supply any Goodyear Eagle decals with this kit, so I used the last of a set of four from my many Indy Cal sheets. Using my regular decal 3 step method of Micro Sol, Micro Set, and then Solvaset, the decals laid down pretty well. Once dry I had to come up with a way to mask the wheels as I don't have any Clear Acrylic Matt. My go to is still Testors Dullcoat. So out came my El Cheap-O Flex circle cutter, and after several, and I mean several attempts to cut the perfect circle, I never got close enough. Now what? Well to the rescue came Adrian. He just didn't know it. Adrian's post on finding non modeling items to work for a certain application or part really turned on that light bulb above my head. I had some Pennies, Nickels, and Dimes on my bench for some reason, and they sure looked like one would fit. Dimes work perfectly. So I glued them with a few drops of White glue and let them dry over night. So a special thanks goes out to Adrian for his help. Next day I air brushed on the Testors Dullcoat thinned 2:3 with Tamiya Yellow Cap as I'm trying to use it up for small jobs. For every 12 drops I added 1 drop of Mr. Retarder Mild. No kidding, that's it's real official name. I also added 1 drop of Tamiya Rubber so to tone down the super bright white logos. Once dry, I'll mount the them on the chassis. Joel
